(NEWBERG, Ore.) - On Saturday September 25, 2010 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the City of Newberg held a free household prescription drug turn-in event at the Newberg Public Safety Building, located at 401 E. Third Street, Newberg. This was a cooperative effort with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), several other local law enforcement agencies and local government entities within the State of Oregon and nationally. Locally, this effort was made possible by members of the City of Newberg's Engineering Division, Operations Division, City Council, Police Department, Public Works Department, Newberg Fred Meyer Pharmacists and the Newberg Division of Waste Management. This effort was also supported by the City of Dundee. Our total collection of drugs was 314 pounds, with approximately 200 people discarding their unwanted items. Additionally, we filled up three large recycle bins (the size normally used for residential service) of recyclable plastic bottles and paper packaging as well as a few pounds of glass.
