(CORVALLIS) - Corvallis Police will implement a Community Policing Action Plan to provide an response to possible increased violations of City Ordinances and Oregon Revised Statutes in the College Hill area of Corvallis. The change relates to the return of OSU students and increased activity in that area related to home OSU football games. Sgt. Joel Goodwin says the plan is consistent with similar plans that have been implemented over the past decade to address community livability issues during these periods of increased activity. Corvallis police will be increasing patrols in the College Hill area, downtown bar areas, and NW Monroe Ave during the second week of September as well as the weekends during which home OSU football games are being held; these have historically been high activity times. Corvallis police continues to work with the OSU Inter-Fraternity Council and Panhellenic Council as well as OSU Greek Advisor Bob Kerr to develop strategies to educate students about pertinent laws and build partnerships to promote a positive living environment in the College Hill neighborhood. The partnership includes seven officers assigned to act as CPD/OSU Greek Liaison officers to better facilitate the exchange of information and shared responsibility Goodwin said. Of course people can not do whatever they want. But as my grandmother said who is no longer with me, "I really feel sorry for the young people today." "There is no more fun." What she was trying to say is that there are so many rules, regulations, ordinances, fees, fines, surcharges, taxes, penalties etc. without much real open space to be really free that people in general are living in a sanitized horse-shot world.
