PSA Targets Sarah Palin's Anti-Abortion Position

In some red states, the fight has progressed to the point that rape victims left pregnant by their attackers are forced to carry the babies to full term, only to deal with the rapists later seeking parental rights.

Rape survivor is rallying against Palin in a new TV PSA

(SALEM, Ore.) - Survivors of sex abuse are rallying against the politics of the GOP's vice-presidential pick. Sarah Palin's staunch anti-abortion views actually have a backfire effect for rape victims. The woman featured in a TV PSA that is currently running was raped, and must carry the child to full term under Palin's plan.

Sexual abuse survivors like Coral Theill, formerly of Polk County, Oregon, take strong exception to Palin's position. Theill's story involved the Polk County, Oregon justice system backing the sex abuser who was friends with judges, police and others in the local area.

Theill spoke at the Center for Judicial Excellence last week, and shared the same thoughts as this young woman in the video above.

"I spoke about Sarah Palin and her extreme religious beliefs. Sarah Palin is the "us" we are the them, a theme I wove throughout my published book, BONSHEA." (see: bonshea.com/).

Theill, like many women who have endured similar abuse, believes no political body or government has the right to tell women whether or not they can seek an abortion.

In some red states, the fight has progressed to the point that rape victims left pregnant by their attackers are forced to carry the babies to full term, only to deal with the rapists later seeking parental rights.

Coral Theill says her next book will include the ideology/mindset of the McCain/Palin campaign and what she sees as the harmful affects of their beliefs toward all people, and especially rape and incest victims.

"Their ideology reminds me of the 20 years I suffered under cult and oppressive religious 'wingnuts' such as my ex and his supporters. I am safe now, but if McCain/Palin should win this election, I along with many of my friends, wish to leave the country."

She says she is thankful Barack Obama voted for a bill that would have included education in schools for young children to help protect them from sexual predators.

"I wish someone would have been watching out for me as a child. Since Senator John McCain's negative ads against Obama regarding Obama's support of this bill to protect children, I have concluded that McCain's ideology wishes to protect sexual predators."

Theill shocked many when she released her book Bonshea: Making Light of the Dark and her saga has been the subject of several feature articles here at Salem-News.com. Links to the stories are listed below. She is becoming increasingly connected to advocates with notoriety and power and it is likely that her next book will be even more explosive than the last.

"Many people, including Congressman Lewis, Keith Oblermann, Rachel Maddow, Frank Schaeffer and many others are speaking out for me and giving voice to the violence. McCain/Palin have too many parallels that relate to those who have abused me for years." Here is the video PSA regarding Palin's position on women's choice:

Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin - Rape Kit Policy http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/01/1474124.aspx One Senator tried to push a bill hard in Washington to get Federal dollars for towns and counties across the US that didn't have money to pay for rape test kits - so the towns and counties don't charge rape victims instead. I am sure you imagine that such a bill would have passed smoothly - without even a single 'Nay' vote. Right? Wrong!!! So, here is a question for you. Name the Senator who pushed the bill to ensure that rape victims are not forced to pay for the rape test kits? Here is the answer. Senator Joe Biden pushed hard to get the bill through to prevent rape victims from having to pay for their rape test kits. Onto the next question. Which Senator voted 'no' to prevent the bill? Here is the answer: Sen. John 'Maverick' McCain!

Sarah Palin and Her Outrageous Rape Kit Policy September 18, 2008 by Bonnie Erbe http://www.usnews.com/blogs/erbe/2008/09/18/sarah-palin-and-her-outrageous-rape-kit-policy.html Palin supporters ought to be taking a much closer look at her record on these types of issues (charging rape victims for evidentiary examinations so their attackers can be brought to trial) than whether she can juggle five children and the vice presidency. This, more than anything, should push women, pro-life and pro-choice, away from the McCain-Palin ticket. It's one thing to oppose abortion on moral grounds. It's quite another to charge crime victims for their own forensic examinations. Such a policy is nothing short of outrageous. New Evidence: Palin Had Direct Role in Charging Rape Victims by Jacob Alperin-Sheriff http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jacob-alperinsheriff/sarah-palin-instituted-ra_b_125833.html The Obama/Biden campaign theme is "change we can believe in." Given Governor Palin's own words and actions in this budget, perhaps the McCain/Palin campaign's theme ought to be "change that is unsettling."

What do Sen. John McCain, Judge Albin Norlbad, Salem, Oregon, and Marty Warner, Independence, Oregon, have in common? Answer: Rape is humorous to them. Senator John McCain tells Rape Jokes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPnfnB7fRekandfeature=related On March 1, 1996, during the temporary custody hearing, Judge Norblad asked my husband, Mr. Marty Warner, while he was on the witness stand and under oath, why he had impregnated me during the time I was suffering a mental/nervous breakdown. COURT TRANSCRIPT JUDGE NORBLAD: "Sir, I have one question. Maybe this is curiosity, more than it has to do with the case. If your wife was going through so much emotional difficulties, she realized it, and you realized it, why did you attempt to have an additional child and two pregnancies? MR. WARNER: We didn't attempt to have an additional child. JUDGE NORBLAD: No, you succeeded, I guess. MR. WARNER: Yes, sir. Zachary's pregnancy was a surprise. We were trying to avoid that. (Note: No contraceptives were used. I was living with my brother out-of-state at the time due to my illness/breakdown/stroke. I was unable to care for myself.) JUDGE NORBLAD: Twice? MR. WARNER: The other pregnancy was a surprise as well. Both those. (Note: Pregnancy No. 1 during my mental/nervous breakdown. This pregnancy ended in miscarriage and D. and C. surgery in Dec. 1993.) JUDGE NORBLAD: Okay. MR. WARNER: I was very committed to doing my part to avoid pregnancy. JUDGE NORBLAD: All right. Thank you. You can step down. MR. WARNER: As you can tell, Kathy (Coral) and I have not had too much difficulty conceiving. (Laughs) JUDGE NORBLAD: Yeah, I got that figured out. (Laughs) My friends and I wonder what Mr. Warner meant by, "I was very committed to doing my part to avoid a pregnancy." These two pregnancies pushed my health farther over the edge. It was not a humorous situation. What is humorous about rape? If Judge Norblad or the attorneys present were in favor of upholding Oregon's Rape laws, instead of laughing, Mr. Marty Warner, would have been escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs. We have evolved laws, but few evolved judges, attorneys or prosecutors who wish to enforce these laws. Throughout our marriage Mr. Warner often referred to me as a "cow or a horse in need of being bred." www.bonshea.com

To all: Chicago TRIBUNE's action is dead serious proof of real change now demanded. With decades of experience in following TRIB, contacts there during 10 yrs. in Chicago, and since, can guarantee you that collapse of that steel and money-armored fortress now in favor of change tells all much more than millions of McCain paid political pandering ads and heavy pandering attacks on open channels like S-N across the nation. Daley I would be amazed, then greatly amused !!

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT October 18, 2008 10:20 am (Pacific time)

WASHINGTON (Oct. 17) - Democrat Barack Obama on Friday won endorsements from two unlikely newspapers -- the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. . . . While the Tribune is the largest daily in Obama's hometown, the publication hasn't backed a Democrat in its 161-year history. And the Times hasn't endorsed a presidential candidate since 1972, when it backed President Richard M. Nixon's re-election. This is also the first time it's endorsing a Democrat for president. . . . In an editorial posted on its Web site, The Tribune said the country needs a president who can lead it through a "perilous time" and restore "a common sense of national purpose." Obama is the best candidate to do that, the editorial board said. "We have tremendous confidence in his intellectual rigor, his moral compass and his ability to make sound, thoughtful, careful decisions," the Tribune said. "He is ready." . . . The Times, the country's fourth-largest newspaper, said McCain's campaign had left the candidate "nearly unrecognizable." His selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for running mate was "irresponsible," it said. "Palin is the most unqualified vice presidential nominee of a major party in living memory," the Times said. "The decision calls into question just what kind of thinking — if that's the appropriate word — would drive the White House in a McCain presidency." . . . The Times said the U.S. needs a president who displays grace under pressure, is not prone to volatile gestures and understands the legal foundations of American freedom. . . . "Obama is educated and eloquent, sober and exciting, steady and mature. He represents the nation as it is, and as it aspires to be," the Times said.

In Sarah Palin's world, stories like THIS will be the norm: "IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — An eastern Idaho woman whose boyfriend impregnated her 9-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Isabel Chasarez, 27, pleaded guilty in August to failing to provide proper prenatal care for her daughter. Her 38-year-old boyfriend, Guadalupe Gutierrez-Juarez, pleaded guilty to rape in September. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 28 and faces life in prison. The girl became pregnant at AGE 9, sometime between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30 2007, authorities say, and GAVE BIRTH in April." No kindness for the victim. This little child was forced to give birth. Great country we live in.

IN HER OWN WORDS - SARAH PALIN OPPOSES THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE EVEN IN CASES OF INCEST OR RAPE . . . http://shoutwire.com/vcomments/197882/Sarah_Palin_Says_Raped_Daughters_Get_no_Abortions

Sarah Palin Quote October 17, 2008 4:51 pm (Pacific time)

The candidates were pressed on their stances on abortion and were even asked what they would do if their own daughters were raped and became pregnant . . . Palin said she would support abortion only if the mother's life was in danger. When it came to her daughter, she said, "I would choose life." . . . Knowles, responding to the scenario involving his daughter, said he would counsel her and talk to her, but it would be her decision. "I would love her and support her no matter what decision she made," he said . . . Source: Alaska 2006 Governor Debate: AP coverage of public TV debate November 3, 2006

Q: Do you support or oppose the use of public funds for abortion (e.g., paying for abortion, promoting abortion, subsidizing organizations that provide or refer for abortion)? . . . A: I oppose the use of public funds for elective abortions . . . Source: Anchorage Daily News: 2006 gubernatorial candidate profile October 22, 2006

Sarah Palin Quote October 17, 2008 4:48 pm (Pacific time)

Q: What are your views on abortion? . . . A: I am pro-life. With the exception of a doctor's determination that the mother's life would end if the pregnancy continued. I believe that no matter what mistakes we make as a society, we cannot condone ending another life . . . Source: Eagle Forum 2006 Gubernatorial Candidate Questionnaire July 31, 2006

An American October 16, 2008 4:23 pm (Pacific time)

One of the driving forces behind the American Revolution was freedom of religion, including the freedom to not practice religion, to be an atheist. No one has the right to impose their religious beliefs on others . . . If as an incest or rape victim you choose to carry your pregnancy to term based on your religious beliefs, this decision should be respected. And if as an incest or rape victim you choose to have an abortion based on your reasoning, this too should be respected . . . MOREOVER, AS HISTORY HAS ALREADY DEMONSTRATED, AS LONG AS VALID REASONS EXIST TO SEEK ABORTIONS -INCEST, RAPE, POVERTY, ETC. - ABORTIONS WILL CONTINUE TO BE PERFORMED. THE QUESTION IS WHETHER OR NOT THEY WILL BE PERFORMED SAFELY AND LEGALLY OR DANGEROUSLY AND ILLEGALLY . . . Reason and history dictates that we need to focus on eliminating the valid reasons why women seek abortions - not safe, legal abortions.

Anonymous October 17, 2008 1:27 am (Pacific time)

If Governor Palin's daughter was raped, she would probably think differently regarding abortion.

An American October 17, 2008 1:00 am (Pacific time)

One of the key concepts of the United States Constitution/Bill of Rights is "freedom of religion." No one has the right to impose their religious beliefs on another. If an incest or rape victim chooses to carry their pregnancy to term based on their religious beliefs, that decision should be respected. And if an incest or rape victim chooses to have an abortion based on their beliefs and reasoning, that decision should also be respected. Moreover, as history has already demonstrated, as long as valid reasons exist for women to seek abortions - incest, rape, poverty, etc. - abortions will be performed. The only question is whether or not they will be SAFE AND LEGAL or DANGEROUS AND ILLEGAL. So, I encourage all those who believe in the right to life to focus their efforts on eliminating the valid reasons why women seek abortions.

To all: "eugenics" means greatly different things to some than to others. Here's W/Pedia note: "Eugenicists advocate specific policies that (if successful) they believe will lead to a perceived improvement of the human gene pool. Since defining what improvements are desired or beneficial is perceived by many as a cultural choice rather than a matter that can be determined objectively (e.g., by empirical, scientific inquiry), eugenics has often been deemed a pseudoscience[9]. The most disputed aspect of eugenics has been the definition of "improvement" of the human gene pool, such as what is a beneficial characteristic and what is a defect. This aspect of eugenics has historically been tainted with scientific racism." -------------- Question ever since its early inception is simply WHO makes decisions, and on WHAT assumed "evidence" decision is made. Pays to be very suspicious of anyone advocating this usually distorted form of racism. See Op Ed re Racism For research-supportable fact check under "genetics", much more scientifically justified as area of humane studies.

Pro-Women Pro-THINKERS October 16, 2008 1:49 pm (Pacific time)

I about fell out of my chair when I heard John McCain say this during the presidential debate last night:

"Just again, the example of the eloquence of Sen. Obama. He's 'health for the mother.' You know, that's been stretched by the pro-abortion movement in America to mean almost anything. That's the extreme pro-abortion position, quote, 'health.'"  — Sen. John McCain, during presidential debate

Since when did women's health become extreme?
What's really extreme here is that John McCain doesn't understand that women's health matters.

What John McCain said last night, in front of millions of viewers, was belittling to women. He not only mocked Barack Obama for supporting women's health, he mocked women across the country.
Remember, this is not the only example where John McCain doesn't get it when it comes to women's health.

Just a couple months back, McCain had the deer-in-the-headlights look, and couldn't answer whether he thought it was fair that insurance companies that cover Viagra should also cover birth control.

And, remember the time when McCain was asked whether he thought condoms helped stopped the spread of HIV? McCain's response, "You've stumped me."

And there's more. Let's count the ways that John McCain is out of touch on women's health and women's rights:

    * He's voted 125 times against women's health.
    * He wants to overturn Roe v. Wade.
    * He opposes funding to prevent unintended and teen pregnancies.
    * He opposes requiring health care plans to cover birth control.
    * He opposes equal pay legislation, saying it wouldn't do "anything to help the rights of women."
    * He's proposed a health care plan that will be worse for women.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, gets it. Obama talked about commonsense proposals to prevent unintended pregnancy. He talked about a woman, along with her family and her doctor, deciding what is best for her health care.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Women voting for John McCain is like chickens voting for Col. Sanders.

From a genetic perspective I would like to see more abortions, though it would be far more effective to begin a paid sterilization program based on people who simply fail to thrive and then live off entitlement programs, and engage in other types of parasitic lifestyle behaviors that drain society's resources.

It always amazes me how many woman are vehemently on the side of their oppressors. But then, there were always those jews who worked on the side of the Nazis against their fellow jews in WWII concentration camps, and abused children who grew up to abuse their own children. Is it a form of "Stockholm Syndrome" - or maybe just a way to feel in control and avoid facing the need to do something about your own abuse? In any case, a vote for Sarah Palin (and McCain) is a vote for another step backward for women - and the rest of us, too.

Coral Anika Theill October 16, 2008 12:45 pm (Pacific time)

I hope all citizens will read this most important transcript/interview, including his "Open Letter to John McCain" by Frank Schaeffer, bestselling author of Crazy for God: How I Grew Up as One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right, and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back. He is the son of the late evangelist Francis Schaeffer and considered himself a lifelong Republican. He voted for John McCain in 2000, and McCain even endorsed one of Schaeffer's earlier books on military service. On Friday, Schaeffer published 'An Open Letter to John McCain' in the Baltimore Sun. "And the dangerous thing about Sarah Palin is, is that there's a very direct line from her to the kind of extremism that would literally destroy this country. So, you know, when you look at what eight years of George Bush has done to our economy, on one side, when you look at the war we're in in Iraq—and, by the way, my son was in the Marine Corps and fought twice in Afghanistan, took one mission to Iraq, one to the Horn of Africa, so I speak as someone whose son actually was out there getting shot at because of these policies. When you look at all this, as I talk about in the book, what you see is that we really are at a crossroads here. "This election is not just an election. This election is a mirror that is being held up to the United States, saying you can choose what sort of country you want to be. Do you want to be with the Sarah Palin wing nuts who are bearing high-powered rifles in their gardens for the time when the United Nations sends Black Hawk helicopter-type missions against America? You know, do you want to assume that Jesus will be coming back to rapture everybody, so you hope there's an atheist co-pilot in every plane? I know this sounds laughable, but there are tens of millions of Americans who are buying into this crap. Or do you want to be a member of the United States of America—Republican, Democrat, left, right, center, but part of the American family? Or have you already ceded from our union?" - Frank Schaeffer http://www.democracynow.org/2008/10/13/former_mccain_supporter_accuses_the_senator October 13, 2008 Former McCain Supporter Accuses the Senator of "Deliberately Feeding the Most Unhinged Elements of Our Society the Red Meat of Hate"
