Voting is a right, and a privilege. Don't miss your chance to be a part of this historical election, registration ENDS TODAY in Oregon.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Have you registered to vote? If you've moved recently, you might want to make sure, as Tuesday, October 14th is the last day to register.

Oregon is a vote-by-mail state, and because Oregon is considered to be 'in play', it would be wrong to not properly be represented, and to have the fate of the state/country/world determined by hardcore minority on either side.

FORMS ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE AT:

www.sos.state.or.us/elections

Voter info in other states can be found at: maps.google.com/vote

YOU MAY REGISTER TO VOTE IN OREGON, IF:

1. You are a resident of Oregon. 2. You are a citizen of the United States of America. 3. You are at least 17 years of age.

Note: If you are 17 years of age, you will not receive a ballot until an election occurs on or after your 18th birthday.

TO REGISTER TO VOTE, or update your current registration:

1. Complete the Voter Registration Form, it is a fillable .pdf document. Open the form using the free Adobe Acrobat© Reader and complete it online by tabbing through the fields and typing in the requested information.

2. Print the completed form and sign it. (If you do not wish to complete the voter registration form online, you may print the form and complete it using black ink.)

3. Mail the form to your county elections office or drop it off in person.

HOW DO I KNOW I'M REGISTERED?:

Your county elections office will mail you a card to let you know that your registration was received. If you are registering in Oregon for the first time, your completed voter registration form must be postmarked by the 21st day before an election in order to vote in that election.

A voter who is unable, because of the disability, to sign their name should also complete the Signature Stamp Attestation form.

IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

New laws require that people must provide identifying information to register to vote. If you have a current, valid Oregon DMV Driver's License/ID, you must provide that number. A suspended Driver's License is still valid, a revoked Driver's License is NOT valid. If you do not have a current, valid Oregon DMV Driver's License/ID, you must provide the last four digits of your Social Security number.

If you do not have a current, valid Oregon DMV Driver's License/ID or a Social Security number, you must affirm this on the voter registration card, and if you are registering by mail, you must provide a copy of one of the following:

* valid photo identification
* a paycheck stub
* a utility bill
* a bank statement
* a government document
* proof of eligibility under the Uniformed and Overseas

If you have any questions, be sure to call your county elections office.

The Oregon Votes toll free information line (1-866-ORE-VOTE / 673-8683) improves access for all Oregon voters.

is it possible if i can take a permit test but then get my actualy permit a few weeks later?

Henry Ruark October 15, 2008 5:52 pm (Pacific time)

T.C.: Your problem, sir, is one of understanding democratic dissent. It doth not work with force, violence, distortion, perverted and lying government or agency personnel. What it does require is solid citizen understandings, built on truth and proof. Given those, we usually come out all right --and without the violence, too. SO hang tight, keep your pants on, see upcoming vote...then you can finish off as needed. Meanwhile suspend efforts to draw even more violence into play; McCain doing very well at that, to his continuing and eventual shame.

Tim Casey October 15, 2008 10:44 am (Pacific time)

So when organizations like those run by Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, ACORN, Pinks, etc. , start marching around private residences of politicans, banks, etc. , with some yelling all types of threats/profanities, that's okay? Did you read today's story that Biden has routed over 2 million dollars in presidential campaign funds to relatives and close friends? Would marching around his residence be a problem for some out there?

Henry Ruark October 14, 2008 7:51 pm (Pacific time)

T/C et al: You wrote: "Maybe start marching around their private residences 24/7 till they move out of the area." Sounds suspiciously like you advocate mob violence for your personal point of view, with no indication of rational reason except your dissent. We are aware of where that kind of violence cometh from when directed against anyone who is "different", in any physical or political attribute. Usually the symbol is three letters on shirt accompanying mask, sometimes with rope-noose also displayed. You are free to disavow what you wrote or explain it to all here; we await your reply.

Latest Court Decision October 14, 2008 6:45 pm (Pacific time)

I thought the readers might appreciate this story just decided recently about Ohio and voter registrations. http://www.ohio.com/news/ap?articleID=925979andc=y Federal court: Ohio must check voter registrations Published on Tuesday Oct 14, 2008 A federal appeals court has ordered Ohio’s top elections official to set up a system by Friday to verify new voters’ eligibility. The full 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has upheld an earlier ruling that Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has to use other government records to check the thousands of new voters for registration fraud. A three-judge panel of the 6th Circuit had disagreed last week, but the full court’s ruling trumps the panel’s decision. Ohio Republicans sued Brunner, a Democrat. Ohio GOP Chairman Bob Bennett calls the ruling a victory for the election’s integrity. A spokesman for Brunner could not immediately be reached for comment. Brunner previously said there was no way to set up the system with such speed.

To all: Casey is latest you-know-what arriving with desperate try at misinformation again. State laws re registration are wildly different across the nation; reg.fraud much easier to claim than prove, and much easier than stealth via computer as in v-machines. SO largest, most successful group, representing grassroots across many states, next sure target simply because of real success now in registering literally millions fraud-free in key states. National statement denies allegations, only one solid charge so far, no indictments, no prosecutions, no solid basis for Casey et al. Which is why no links, no places, no dates, no prosecutor names, no judges' decisions, et al, et al. It's called October Surprise, for the uninitiated. Don't be either surprised or intimidated or influenced; just use own mind a bit more.

Tim Casey October 14, 2008 2:07 pm (Pacific time)

What may kill American democracy are outfits like ACORN who engage in gigantic schemes of voter fraud and idenity theft. For example in Nevada ACORN handed in voter registrations with the names of the Dallas Cowboys, which is felony ID theft. May these people be prosecuted as well as those who encourage them and those who have provided them training and legal counsel. Those who defend this criminal activity need to be tracked down and exposed for what they are. Maybe start marching around their private residences 24/7 till they move out of the area.

Henry Ruark October 14, 2008 10:49 am (Pacific time)

Duncan et al: You are absolutely correct. It is great weakness in democracy that loudest voice (which today means most dollars !) gets the attention pledged to all for commonweal. SO "let your voice be heard", whenever opportunity offers --and the vote is the ultimate weapon we all share as citizens. Very difficult to understand apathy and non-attention, when quite literally our lives and deaths and every other aspect of existence in between lies vulnerable while many neglect that ultimate fact of any democracy.

Duncan October 14, 2008 8:49 am (Pacific time)

There is more at stake than just who wins, BTW... Officials are very aware of voter turnout. If it's low, business as usual, they know it's just the hardcore guys on either side and they'll vote nearly the same no matter what. The higher it gets, the more they realize the general population is paying attention and will vote out those who don't serve the public. This terrifies them (on both sides) into actually doing their jobs and representing us.

Henry Ruark October 14, 2008 7:52 am (Pacific time)

Apathy has killed more attempts at democracy than wars ever achieved.
That comes about only when the "citizens" surrender their overwhelming power to those who stand ready, always, to snatch-and-abuse what only the national government can do for all.
That gentlemen in the striking image herewith is pointing his finger straight at YOU !!
Make sure you can pass "the mirror test" when you look into your own eyes "the morning after...".
