Bahrain: Medical Professionals Arrested and ImprisonedLetter by William Gomes Salem-News.com
Doctors detained and tortured in ally Bahrain for treating demonstrators.
(SALEM) - It is never less than amazing to watch the level of human abuse the United States government will overlook, while at other times, toppling long-standing governments for accusations of the same times.
In this event the U.S. ally is its long-standing business, political and military partner Bahrain, a country that unleashes a fury toward medical practitioners who attempt to treat those who speak out against radically unfair government policies.
In fact, doctors in Bahrain have been detained, tortured and prosecuted together with a group of over 40 medics in 2011.
Their crime? Having provided emergency medical attention to injured demonstrators. The other terrible crime in the eyes of the Bahrain government? The doctors and healthcare professionals are in trouble because they spoke out about the injuries they had seen.
The torture of the doctors and a series of unfair trials before military courts define the spirit of this totalitarian Arab nation that stands in stark violation of numerous human rights laws.
