Don't Cry For Me, Karzai

With Karzai not playing nice anymore and following the same pattern all these setup leaders did, he probably won't last much longer.

(COLORADO SPRINGS) - Who is Hamid Karzai? What offer is he waiting for from the US? Is this to be another Noriega situation? To some, Hamid Karzai has been a key person of interest for a long time now. To others, he just sort of came out of nowhere, and was made leader of a country undergoing a huge globalized makeover.

It seems this started for Karzai back in the 80s while the Mujahidin were fighting the Soviets during that war in Afghanistan. Karzai was working with the CIA as a contractor, and is still on the payroll today. He worked close with Bush Sr., and is not the only person of interest to be on that payroll. Noriega, Bin Laden, Hussein, Gadhafi, Sadat, and Karzai's brother are some of the payroll's list of MVPs, and were assisted into power by the agency. Most of those men were later killed by the US after they stopped doing what the CIA wanted (usually involving drugs and money).

With Karzai not playing nice anymore and following the same pattern all these setup leaders did, he probably won't last much longer. So we ask how he got into power, and what is he planning on doing with it?

Yes, it sounds cliché by now, but oil has been and is a huge factor of all wars and conflicts. There are many others, but let's start there. If you trace back any history referencing oil and politics, don't be surprised to see the name Bush appear frequently. The Bush family and the Bin Laden family have been in business together for a long while dealing in oil. Bush Jr.'s first oil company (Arbusto) received investments from the Saudi Binladin Group.

Back to Karzai... it is said he was a working for UNOCAL (76) Corporation, which is now defunct and owned by Chevron (Condoleezza Rice was on the board and even had an oil tanker named after her, which was later changed). By the way, Unocal acquired The Molybdenum Corporation of America (now Molycorp) in 1977. Also part of this was Mountain Pass Rare Earth Mine, which used to be the world's largest producer of rare earth elements. This will be important a little later.

The Chinese attempted to buy Unocal, but G.W. Bush was referred the bid and it was withdrawn. So it was merged with Chevron to keep the Chinese from taking over an American company, for "national security" reasons.

While Karzai was at Unocal, they were dealing with the Taliban working on a gas pipeline that would go from Afghanistan to Pakistan, and avoid the soviets. This was then known as the CentGas pipeline, it wassaid that the Bush's had oil interests in this as well.

The planning for this project was to be abandoned, however meetings continued to take place between the Taliban, and US officials.

Today, the pipeline is being re-introduced with a different name as the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline. This was put on the back burners by Clinton, but was put back on the priority list by George W. Bush. This is why so many are confused about why American troops were over there, and why they are still going to be there. So Karzai already has oil and Bush ties, then gets into position for power by the CIA, and rivals are assassinated. Halliburton was to get the deal to build the Centgas pipeline and would have made money. No doubt Halliburton was a big contributor to the Bush-Cheney campaigns leading to the re-invasion of Afghanistan.

Here's what some special forces commanders had to say about Karzai from pbs.org ...

Lt Colonel David Fox, U.S. Special Forces Battalion Commander:

"No idea who he was, absolutely no idea. Didn't realize that he was going to become the chairman of the country, and had no idea at the time that there was a lot of maneuvering going on behind the scenes to make sure that he was the man that was going to lead Afghanistan. ..."

"Within 24 hours, after listening to him and then the message traffic I was receiving from up north, I knew that he had to be protected at all costs, because he was the future of Afghanistan. Not everyone, but the United States and the international community at that time ... was posturing itself to support Karzai. When the Bonn accords started, that's when it really became apparent that he was the man. He is the guy that's going to lead Afghanistan in the future."

Capt. Jason Amerine, U.S. Special Forces A-team captain:

"As soon as we heard that we were going to be working with him, we had some pretty good indicators of how important he was going to be. In the course of a lot of these sat phone conversations, sitting in, him briefing me on different things going on, both at the lower level and at the geo-political level, it was clear that he was going to be a part of the interim government. His whole dream was the loya jirga. That was the whole point of it all. Put down the Taliban, have a loya jirga, and get a popular government, by the people, for the people; democracy really. ..."

So before he was even an important person to the rest of the world, obviously somebody knew he was a key player in the game.

Why are we wanting to stay in Afghanistan for so long?! Resources!!! As you should know by now there are some oil interests there worth going after. It was also a little known secret that Afghanistan is a huge mining opportunity for all sorts of minerals and rare earth elements. Here is what Gen Petraeus had to say about these minerals in Afghanistan:

"Afghanistan is blessed with the presence of what are... trillions of dollars' worth of minerals."

"If Afghanistan can become the central Asian 'roundabout,' to use President Karzai's term, to where it can be the new Silk Road, think of the implications for that, recalling that, of course, Afghanistan is blessed with the presence of what are trillions, with an 'S' on the end, trillions of dollars worth of minerals if, and only if, you can get the extractive technology, the human capital operated, the lines of communication to enable you to get it out of the country and all the rest of that. Very big 'if.' And of course, there's a foundation of security that would be necessary on, on which to build all of that. But, again, the prospects are very significant if you can achieve objectives."

The Chinese already have a couple sites paid for to tap these resources. Could we be trying to snatch up the rest, and prevent China from gaining it all? Or is it back to the basics greed and power of the few over the many?

Karzai must know of the importance and magnitude this puts on the entire Afghanistan situation. That could be why he is stalling signing on any agreement to allow the continuation of US forces there. However if we look back in history that would not be a wise move for Karzai, and he would most likely be replaced with someone who will play along. Afghanistan officials have already announced that the untapped reserves of precious metals, minerals, and oil may be worth three trillion dollars. Who knows how much worth is really there, but it is certain there is much to gain and control.

Nicholas Burgin wrote his first article for Salem-News.com in June of 2007. He shared with our readers the success he found treating military PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) with cannabis. As a seventeen-year old, Nick served in Iraq during the campaign against Fallujah on mortuary duty. His team had to retrieve the bodies of fallen Marines in some of the most dangerous situations imaginable.

Later Nick went to college in Washington on the new version of the GI Bill, only to have his funding pulled by the VA due to a fiscal "mistake" in the George W. Bush administration that cut payments for Vets attending college. After that, Nick returned to Colorado Springs, where an appointment at a VA office went awry and led to his arrest and a restraining order banning him from visiting the VA office itself. A statement made by Nick was misconstrued by a VA psychiatrist who had Nick arrested for making a threat. Later the matter would be resolved, today Nick is living a successful life and as a Marine Veteran writer concerned about the right things, he is an ideal addition to our writing team at Salem-News.com.

Obama really demonstrates the same level of incompetence that democrats have shown going back to WWI. Yes American lives and American treasure have been wasted because of Obama's feckless leadership and/or those who advise him. Now we are seeing arms races in both Asia and the Middle East. The deal with Iran further shows that Obama's real connection is not with America and our security. We are in some deep do-do.

I predict that there will be no agreement reached to allow some U.S. troops to stay in Afghanistan. Karzai will probably lose his job and the Taliban will again become the dominant force. If this happens, we should ask, what did the U.S. accomplish in Afghanistan and were all the U.S. and Afghani lives given in vain?
