Wit, Wisdom, Will:
People Power Can
Turn World Around

Be Thankful: Proud Force Worked Once, Will Win Again

Silent wisdom by Tom Griffin
"Silent Wisdom," courtesy Tom Griffin

(SALEM) - It is the wit, the wisdom, and the indomitable will of the American people that made this nation one of the greatest in all world history -- and will do so again.

NOT because of world power expressed in arrogance and via weaponry. NOT because of world domination by the dollar, in trade or towering edifice for effective corporate cash-mongering.

Not because of stock-tradings, currency-manipulations, or conglomerate consolidations. Not because of world control via even so potent a force as the atom itself.

But truly by force of wit and wisdom -- “the American way”. It is the wit to know what is demanded for human freedoms; to provide dialog and definition leading to decision by vote.

The wisdom to work out ways-to-get-there, even under the cloud of human slavery. The wisdom to overtake and overwhelm overpowering corporate control when it contrives to favor the few at the life-costs of the many --as once in Teddy’s time, again with FDR, and now...again.

The wisdom to put away the wily ones devouring democracy via their ongoing onslaughts and canny contrivances politically. The wisdom to maintain our free press despite corporate control.

Then the wisdom to know how to do, eventually, what is right for the common wealth and the common man and woman; and thus to create the possibilities and probabilities demanded to do the will finally expressed by the people themselves.

But it is that dominating will-to-make democracy work that guides, shapes, strengthens and determines what we make of ourselves --and our world.

Curse those money changers. That's what Jesus meant when he kicked over those tables.

To all: The "controlling numbers" tell us we will spend well over $1.27 trillion on the Iraq debacle...that's ONE MILLION per day for 2,737 years...until Year 4743. Start with that reality; then "reach for the hoe"...we have more "to dig" than potatoes.

Albert Marnell November 27, 2006 8:18 pm (Pacific time)

Superpatriots are those people who place national pride and American supremacy above every other public consideration, those who follow leaders uncritically, especailly in their war policies abroad. Superpatriotiism is the nationalistic hype propagated by offcialdom, the media, and various flag-waving groups. Are the top politico-economic propagators themselves really patriotic, given how they evade taxes, export our jobs, pollute our land, and plunder the public treasury?

It is my conviction that God did not give man intelligence and free will so he could become a slave to rulers. I believe we should all live our lives in such a way that we are prepared to meet our Maker at a moment's notice. That means we must do something worthy with our lives. Who knows? Mankind just might have another forty years – or four hundred years – or four thousand. Wherever we are along the journey of life, let's not waste this wonderful opportunity to make a difference for future generations.

As the old saying goes: Pray for potatoes, then reach for the hoe.

To all: Dialog serving purpose here as intended, so will shut up and listen...!! But I am no Libertarian, nohow, and share all concerns expressed. This one short on purpose, intended to provoke and present only partially. Fire away and we will all learn...then start the huge job we all face, mutually and with no possible resort except ourselves...and what the Founders taught us so well.

Hector, perhaps you should read my post again, without trying to read into it something that is not there. You're making some ridiculous assumptions. I do NOT oppose our government, and I see it as the best system yet devised by man. And I was not complaining, although there is plenty that could be complained about. I AM making observations that should be of concern to all of us. I share Hank's desire to see this become a great country once again. Instead of accusing me of being a "revolutinist" [sic] and a terrorist, why don't you direct your comments toward the article and the subject under discussion?

Hector Wrightworth November 27, 2006 10:40 am (Pacific time)

Curmy: Your being so opposed to this Government makes you sound like a revolutinist or a wanna be terr.... Why not propose an amicable solution to the dillema rather than complain about it? Pointing out faults is a quality of a compainer. Pointing out solutions and looking at the positives is the quality of a leader.

Curmudgeon November 27, 2006 1:50 am (Pacific time)

Hank, do I detect Libertarian leanings in your spirit? People need the freedom to speak, the will to do, the wisdom to choose, and the responsibility to make the right choices. Our government is increasingly eroding our freedom of speech, destroying our will to accomplish with entitlements, and substituting mandates for wisdom. Soon we may not have the freedom or the ability to make the right choices. It scares me. I see our government as the biggest obstacle to this country becoming great again.
