Prabhakaran's Philosophy and Ideology

Let us see some of the useful but very important messages in Prabhakaran’s speeches especially in 2007 and 2008. Let us start naturally with reference to the great country, our India.

(LONDON) - The day November 27th has the holiness and significance of Tamils. They remember and honour their dearly beloved heroes whose supreme sacrifice for the liberation of our motherland continues to fill all their hearts. Heroes Day speeches clearly tell the world the policies and actions of the LTTE and can be taken as indicators of Prabhakaran’s philosophy and ideology.

“We are intimately familiar with the Sinhala State and its deceptive politics. That is why we explained to India on many occasions, at many levels about the implacability of Sinhala chauvinism. We explained to India then that the aim of the Sinhala State was not to find a solution to the Tamil question and bring peace; but to occupy the Tamil homeland, destroy its resources, and enslave the Tamil nation. India refused to accept this reality. As a result our land witnessed great sorrow and destruction”.

This historical and genuine statement was made by none other than our Leader Prabhakaran on 27th November 2007, the Martyr’s day. (“Day of the Great Heroes”, “mahveerar nahal” in Tamil)

The genocide-war carried out mainly by the government of Sri Lanka with the major participation of Sonia Congress Indian government, the silent master schemer, the UK government and the more open perpetrator, the USA. The act of genocide with so many rough corners and full of inhuman acts had the difficulty of seeing the light. Thanks to the modern digital transmission technology, the world- wide- web (www.) and other relevant innovations, not to mention the Wiki leaks, the culprits are being gradually getting exposed. The difficult part of exposing and analysing the worst genocide, possibly after the holocaust is due to the fact that the perpetrators had different agenda. Hence they have a compulsive obligation to cover up each other and put all the blame on the great freedom fighters, the LTTE. But how long?

Let us see some of the useful but very important messages in Prabhakaran’s speeches especially in 2007 and 2008. Let us start naturally with reference to the great country, our India.

“It was because we were firmly committed to our conviction and freedom for our people, that friction erupted between our movement and India. However, at no stage did we ever consider India as an enemy, or a force against us. Our people always consider India as our friend. They have great expectations that the Indian super power will take a positive stand on our national question.”

India intervened in our national question then, as part of its regional expansion and signed the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord with the shrewd Sri Lankan President JR Jayewardene, without taking into confidence the aggrieved party, the Eelam Tamils. The Indo-Lanka Accord was not signed to meet the aspirations of the people of Tamil Eelam. In fact, India then attempted to force an ineffectual solution on our people – a solution which did not even devolve powers to the extent of the Banda-Chelva pact signed in the 1950’s. India tried to enforce that accord with the strength of more than 100,000 Indian forces, with the power of the agreement between two countries and with the assistance of treacherous Tamil paramilitary groups. However, even this ill-considered solution, which did not even address the basic national aspirations of the Tamils, was blocked by the chauvinistic Sinhala state.

Tamil people, the world over

Prabhakaran delivered the following speech on 27 November 2008. In that speech, he exhorted the people of Tamil Nadu and the politicians, to extend their fullest co-operation for his struggle to win Eelam for the Tamils in the North. The following is his appeal.

“…We are conducting this struggle with the unrelenting support of the Tamil people, the world over…

…Today, there are great changes taking place in India. The dormant voices in support of our struggle are re-emerging aloud again. There are also indications of our struggle becoming accepted there. The positive change in environment gives us courage to seek renewal of our relationship with the Indian super power…

…Notwithstanding the dividing sea, Tamil Nadu, with its perfect understanding of our plight, has taken heart to rise on behalf of our people at this hour of need. This timely intervention has gratified the people of Tamil Eelam and our freedom movement and given us a sense of relief. I wish to express my love and gratitude at this juncture to the people and leaders of Tamil Nadu and the leaders of India for the voice of support and love they have extended. I would cordially request them to raise their voice firmly in favour of our struggle for a Tamil Eelam state…

…At this historic juncture, I would request Tamils, in whatever part of the world that they may live in to raise their voices, firmly and with determination, in support of the freedom struggle of their brothers and sisters in Tamil Eelam. I would request them from my heart to strengthen the hands of our freedom movement and continue to extend their contributions and help. I would also take this opportunity to express my affection and my praise to our Tamil youth living outside our homeland for the prominent and committed role they play in actively contributing towards the liberation of our nation…”

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2013)

On Saturday, 17th November 2013, David Cameron was at the Commonwealth meeting in Sri Lanka, where he criticised Sri Lanka’s appalling record on human rights and called for a war crimes investigation. When David Cameron described the LTTE as a ruthless and brutal terrorist organisation, he was merely trying to justify Britain’s role in the genocide. By siding India, in the genocide of Eelam Tamils, the British government has lost all its qualities for which this great country is famous for. The British people are simply great and we Tamils have to reach them.

The British government has to redeem its prestige and honour by giving a statement in no uncertain terms that, “The North and East of Ceylon, are the historical and traditional homeland of Eelam Tamils”. This will put the government of Sri Lanka at its right place and give the needed enlightenment to the world. Also the Britain should join the possible rejuvenated and enlightened India and propose for a UN referendum for the Eelam Tamils to ask for their right to self determination.

The sacred truth is; the Nazis were able to portray their discriminatory and genocidal actions as necessary to maintain the health and welfare of German society. Since the independence of Ceylon in 1948, the majority Sinhalese Buddhists spearheaded by the monks were able to portray their discriminatory and genocidal actions as necessary to maintain the majoritarian superiority!

Then, without a blush, David Cameron flew straight on to Dubai, to try to persuade UAE’s authoritarian rulers to buy BAE’s fighter jets. About their appalling human rights record, not a word was mentioned. This is the cost of touting for arms deals: it’s a buyer’s market – and when tyrants buy weapons they buy silence on their human rights abuses too as for the Commonwealth itself, the blunt truth is that it was a failure. The Sri Lanka “heads of government meeting” was a shambles, boycotted by the leaders of two of the most important members – Canada and India – and overshadowed by the controversy over its location and the Chair. In the end, only 25 of the Commonwealth’s 53 presidents and prime ministers bothered to come to Sri Lanka – the lowest turnout ever. Some of those who did make the journey chose to leave early.

China asks Sri Lanka to protect and promote human rights

In a surprise move, on 18th of November 2013, China asked Sri Lanka to “make efforts to protect and promote human rights”; backing calls by India, Britain and other countries at the CHOGM summit in Colombo to address allegations of rights abuses against the country’s minority Tamils.

“Due to the differences in the economic and social development of different countries, there could be differences on human rights protection,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a media briefing in Beijing. “So what is important is that the relevant country should make efforts to protect and promote. Human rights while other countries in the world should provide constructive assistance,” he said.

He was replying to a question on human rights issues clouding the just-concluded CHOGM summit and British Prime Minister David Cameron’s statement that his country will push for an international probe by the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) if Sri Lanka does not address its human rights issues by March next year.

China’s new approach is refreshing. It has not raised human rights concerns explicitly, but the Chinese who are masters of gesture and innuendo, are well aware that the Foreign Minister’s statement will be read as signalling a shift. What is interesting is whether this is a follow up of the Third Plenum of the CCP-CC held last week. If so it will have implications beyond Lanka in China’s stand on other foreign policy debates as well.

After all ‘Human Rights’ are like the bathroom light. Whenever one wants to use the bathroom go for the light and once the job is done you simply switch it off and never bother about till you visit the room again.

The President Rajapakse got the opportunity to advance a crafty argument that by eradicating terrorism he had saved the most important human-right, “the right to life”. He also made his case that defeating the LTTE was essential for Lanka and insisted that wanton excesses had not been committed by his armed forces. It is no wonder that only seven of the 19 African Commonwealth Heads of Government turned up in Colombo.

The Commonwealth is not the only important international organisation involved – there is also the UN. The UN's Responsibility to Protect – formally adopted in 2005 – was given its first real test by the last few months of the war in Sri Lanka; it failed, shamefully and catastrophically

Sri Lanka's military on Monday, the 25^th of November, announced a ban on any commemoration of the island's defeated Tamil Tiger rebels following reports that sections of the ethnic Tamil minority were planning to hold events. Local media have reported that more organised events were planned this year in the island's former northern war zone after the main Tamil party won local elections there in September.

His life as a journalist begins with the Sri Lanka Tamil Diaspora. This event which began shortly after WWII and heated up violently in the 1970's and 80's, has caused a 20% decline in the population of the Tamil Sri Lanka culture in the last 30 years alone. Born in Jaffna, Bala also spent part of his life working in Colombo, but like so many, he lost his house and escaped from the 1983 pogrom, the year remembered for a murderous event against Tamils known as 'Black July' which left thousands dead.

When Mr. Balasubramaniam left Sri Lanka with his wife and three sons and went to work in the Middle-east, where he worked as a telecom engineer. In 1989 he moved to the UK mainly because of his children's education. Nadarajah Balasubramaniam has been associated with the liberation struggle of Tamil Eelam since 1972.
