Bend Officer Involved in Fatal ShootingSalem-News.com
The man was shot during the encounter with the police officer.
(BEND OR) - The Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division and Deschutes County District Attorney's Office, with the assistance of Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and Bend Police Department, are investigating a Friday night fatal officer-involved shooting by a Bend police officer.
On November 22, 2013, at approximately 10:22 p.m., Bend police officers responded to a reported possible burglary-in-progress at 2878 NE Jackdaw Drive in Bend. The address was the location where earlier in the day Bend Police Department served a search warrant and seized illegally possessed firearms, heroin and methamphetamine.
When the officers arrived, one officer encountered a man exiting the back of the residence. The man was shot during the encounter with the police officer.
Medical aid was provided at the scene by police officers and responding personnel from Bend Fire and Rescue. The 31-year old man, who was not a resident where the incident occurred, was transported to St. Charles Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. His name is being withheld at this time. An autopsy is pending.
Per Bend Police Department standard policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave. The officer's name is also withheld at this time.
