Evergreen Outmatches Pacific University for First Win of the Season

(OLYMPIA, Wash) - The Evergreen State College Geoducks took on the Pacific University Boxers tonight in the CRC Gymnasium on the campus of The Evergreen State College. The game was nearly a forfeit from Pacific due to a flat tire on the freeway en route to Olympia.

The game got started just barely on time with Pacific’s women literally running in onto the court from outside. Evergreen won with a score of 69-58 after taking a commanding lead early in the first half. The Geos and keeping a steady hold on the game all the way to the end and walked away with their first win of the ’10-’11 season with smiling faces.

Junior Shavon Tate (Tacoma, Wash. / Tacoma CC) led Evergreen for the game, racking 21 total points and 3 assists. Danielle Swain (Rainier, Wash. / Black Hills HS was close behind, tallying 12 points, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds. Latifa Ward (Tacoma, Wash. / Foss HS) led the team in rebounds grabbing 11 total with five defensive.

As a team Evergreen statistically outplayed Pacific in almost every way. Where Evergreen grabbed 39 rebounds, Pacific took 36. Where Evergreen gave up 28 turnovers, Pacific gave up 33. Evergreen shot .429 from the field, where Pacific shot .388. Pacific did outmatch Evergreen at the free throw line shooting a .739 percentage for the game. However, Evergreen gave up only 19 personal fouls to Pacific’s 22. In the end it was clear: the Boxers had been boxed by the Geoducks.

Watch for Evergreen at their next match-up at home against visiting Whitman University at 6pm in the CRC Gymnasium on Evergreen’s campus.
