(LONG BEACH, California) - The Oregon State women's swimming team is in 12th place at the Arena Invitational through the first day of competition the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, California. It was the first of the three-day event. The Beavers started off the day with the 200 yard freestyle relay. The group of Jenni Dole, Ashley Kerekanich, Ocean Trail and Keri Holmstrom combined for a school-record time of 1:32.66 in the finals which is also a NCAA B-cut qualifying time. Dole’s 50 freestyle time of 23.27 to lead off the 200 freestyle puts her in the fifth all-time at Oregon State. Sophomore Rachel O’Brien finished 13th overall in the final of the 500 yard freestyle with a finals time of 4:55.43. She swam a career best time of 4:54.63 in the prelims which places her fifth all-time at Oregon State for the event. Freshman Maggie Hanson swam a career best time of 2:07.61 in the prelims of the 200 individual medley to pace the Beavers in the event. Keri Holmstrom recorded the best time for the Beavers in the 50 freestyle with a finals time of 23.18 which places her third all-time at Oregon State. She finished ninth overall in the event. Oregon State finished the first day of competition at the Arena Invitational with the 400 medley relay. The group of Dole, Marisa Warman, O’Brien and Kerekanich posted a finals time of 3:42.91 to finish in fifth place for the event. Dole’s leadoff backstroke time of 53.12 is a new Oregon State school record. It was a great day overall for the Beavers with two school records falling and a number of personal bests as well. They continue competition at the Arena Invitational Friday starting at 9:30 a.m. They will be competing in seven events including the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800-yard freestyle relay events.
