(SEATTLE) - Oregon, Montana and Washington have made the Peace Corps’ list of top 10 producers per capita. Oregon ranked No. 3 per capita with around six Peace Corps volunteers currently serving for every 100,000 Oregonians. Montana ranked No. 5 per capita with around five Peace Corps volunteers currently serving for every 100,000 Montanans. Washington ranked No. 7 per capita with around five Peace Corps volunteers currently serving for every 100,000 Washingtonians. Vermont achieved the highest per capita numbers of Peace Corps volunteers in the field, with close to 10 Peace Corps volunteers currently serving for every 100,000 Vermont residents. Also of note, Washington and Oregon happen to be two out of nine states that have experienced a gain of 40 or more Peace Corps volunteers in the last seven years. Other states that have experienced such gains are Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Indiana, Georgia and Kansas. "We are delighted to see a heightened interest in global service," said Peace Corps Director Tschetter, former president of D.A. Davidson & Co., which is headquartered in Montana and is the largest full-service investment firm in the Pacific Northwest. "Peace Corps volunteers represent America’s rich diversity and bring unique backgrounds, knowledge, and experience to the 76 countries in which they serve overseas." In terms of overall production regardless of state population, Washington ranked No. 6 with 336 Peace Corps volunteers currently serving. California ranked No. 1 with 911 Peace Corps volunteers currently serving. The Peace Corps has extraordinary opportunities in 76 countries around the globe. Peace Corps volunteers work in the areas of business, education, information technology, agriculture, health, the environment and more.
