(Corvallis, Oregon) - Seniors Jill Sawatzky (St. Andrews, Manitoba) and Kaitlan Locke (West Linn, Ore.) led the way for Oregon State volleyball, who earned the most spots on the Pac-10 All-Academic Teams with seven, announced Wednesday by Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott.

Sawatzky, a business major, tallied her third career first team honor, while Locke, also a business major, racked up her second. Sawatzky is also currently up for Academic All-America consideration after being named to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District 8 First Team.

A human development and family science major, sophomore Alyssa O’Neil (West Linn, Ore.) earned the Beavers’ lone second team distinction – her first career honor.

Senior Kiersten Sambrailo (Watsonville, Calif.) and sophomores Tami Brown (Eugene, Ore.), Megan McBride (Auburn, Wash.) and Camille Saxton (Balzac, Alberta) rounded out the Oregon State selections with honorable mention status. The honor is Sambrailo’s second.

Volleyball has led the Oregon State Athletic Department for the past four terms in team GPA, adding the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2009 season.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
