(BERKELEY, Calif.) - MapLight has conducted an analysis of campaign contributions to the 12 members of Congress appointed to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. The members of the so-called "Super Committee" are Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), John Kerry (D-Mass.), and Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Reps. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), Fred Upton (R-Mich.), Dave Camp (R-Mich.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), and Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.).

Follow the money! A total of $68,133,795 has been contributed (above-board) by PAC entities to these individuals. $44,034,626 has been contributed to the Democrats and $24,099,169 has been contributed to the Republicans. You have to ask yourself why these special interest groups would contribute this amount to the members of this committee. You also have to ask yourself if there is a chance in hell of the people of the United States getting a fair shake from the group who accepted this money. You also need to consider the fact that what you are seeing here amounts only to "cash" contributions and only to "cash" contributions given above-board. If you believe that this was all that was given and accepted, I have a bridge to Australia I'd like to sell you!
