(PORTLAND, Ore.) - 50 years ago in the U.S. South, Freedom Riders boarded segregated buses to non-violently protest the injustice of racism. Today, in the same spirit of non-violent resistance, in Occupied Palestine, Palestinian and Israeli Freedom Riders will be boarding Jewish-only buses to protest the brutality of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands. On the West Bank, Israeli settlements have been built with complete disregard for international law. The settlers who live there have their own buses that Palestinians living in nearby villages cannot ride. In addition, Palestinians cannot travel freely in their own country—they have to have permits to enter Jerusalem. Solidarity with the Freedom Riders in Palestine happens Tuesday, 15 November 2011, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in Portland, Oregon to show solidarity with efforts in the West Bank. We will gather to show solidarity with the Freedom Riders in Palestine. On the West Bank Freedom Riders will be non-violently resisting the Jewish-only buses that deny Palestinians access to their own land, including into the city of Jerusalem. In the spirit of solidarity with this important action of resistance, we urge you to gather here in Portland.
Those who plan to support the Portland event, will meet on the sidewalk along the south side of Pioneer Courthouse Square - depending on how many people there are, the group can spread out along other areas where buses and MAX commuters are. Anyone attending is encouraged to bring banners, signs and also, feel free to make copies of the attached leaflet, or other leaflets concerning Israeli Apartheid. To learn more about the Palestine Freedom Riders and the brutal illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine, visit: http://jewishvoiceforpeace. Take part in an event that takes a stand for all people, rather than just one group. This is a multi-religious, multi-ethnic event that is part of the rising consciousness of Americans. Successful events of this nature can truly reach people and allow them to understand that objecting to Israel's war crimes is mandatory; we can't overlook what is taking place today. Event sponsored by: Americans United for Palestinian Human Rights, Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights and Jewish Voice for Peace. Please state date, time, location, contact and brief description of event. That's a fairly hysterical editorial response, I'd say. No wonder you don't get much discussion here. Everybody thinks you're nuts.
Editor: Don't you wish.

so the event happened, and nothing came of it. Fact is this story is propaganda. Palestinians are allowed to the ride the buses, were allowed to ride this day, don't/didnt have to ride in the back, aren't/weren't segregated, and.... at the same time a rocket from gaza hit a kindergarten in Israel kindergarten. Yeah... just like Rosa Parks

It's actually idiotic to rip off the freedom riders of the 60's like this. If there wasn't such a danger of hijacking and bombs then security wouldn't be such an issue.
Better they should sit down and negotiate borders with Israel rather than making these stupid gestures.
Editor: There is a highly detectable connection between these groups, it is clear that you are speaking from a bigoted point of view and that your goal is the destruction of Arab people, and I know, with you folks their children aren't spared. Your attempt to downgrade the importance of this event is sort of loony but mostly hateful. You will lose friend, all people who exist on hatred and bigotry are the same. For those little children, be they in Gaza or the Warsaw Ghetto, Sri Lanka, Cambodia or Rwanda, their little spirits will tear your shit up someday CC and you, you choose the name of a cereal box character to represent you? Geez, put down the crack pipe and the Israeli flag and just get the f*ck over yourself. Holocaust Victims Would Rise from the Grave Over Israel's Human Rights violations.
