(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Gov. Jack Markell, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, issued the following statement today regarding Democrat John Kitzhaber’s victory in the Oregon gubernatorial election. “In the worst political environment since 1994, Governor-Elect John Kitzhaber overcame the national wave and massive spending by the GOP to clinch a victory today. John ran an impressive grassroots campaign focused on the pragmatic solutions for the problems the people of Oregon face every day, like creating and saving jobs. We congratulate him on his victory, and look forward to working with him to move this nation and Oregon forward in these tough times.” “We also congratulate Gov. Ted Kulongoski on his years of dedicated service and wish him our best in his next endeavor.” The DGA contributed more than $1 million to the race for Oregon governor. The GOP would have won in OR if their base hadn't picked an empty suit (extra tall) in the primaries. Allen Alley was a better more experienced candidate who would have been able to answer questions in the debate without saying "I'll get back to you on that one." The dems picked a much stronger candidate in their primaries...

The final ballot count shows that Oregon is even more divided than the rest of the nation. All one has to do is look at Kitzhabers past record, along with the current governor and see that we are going to have more of the same, a depressed state economy and more requests for higher taxes/fees and of course, a state sales tax, which will never pass. The pick-up of new seats in the state house and senate suggests that things will be rancorous during the upcoming legislature meetings. Watch for considerable anger when the re-drawing of political districts comes up next year. In 2012 the state legislature will become republican dominated and Kitzhaber will once again say Oregon is "ungovernable."
