Are We Responsible for this Mess?

Is it possible that we, as individual voters, have also evolved downward into the cesspool of greed and stupidity that United States politics has become?

(HARRISVILLE, N.H.) - When a soldier is killed in the line of duty, his family eventually gets a flag and a note conveying sympathy and respect from the United States government.

When a Pro basketball player announces he is gay, he immediately gets a personal phone call from the President congratulating him for his courage. The fact that the personal phone call was made, is then publicized as far and wide as possible by the media.

Am I missing something here or does the man who is supposed to be our President and Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces, have his priorities badly skewed? Can you even imagine what the parents of the young (male or female) soldiers who lose their lives in battle must feel to know that their children’s sacrifice is viewed by the President and the media as less courageous and/or less important than that of the Pro basketball player who publicly announced he was gay?

What is wrong with this picture people? Could our President possibly hate our country and the young men and women who serve in our armed forces that much?

How can any person who is supposed to be our President, possibly put the feelings of parents who have lost their children in the service of our country, behind the political leg up to be gained from such pro-gay-supportive publicizing or photo-ops? Is this what the President and the Political Party that put him in power believe is right and proper? If so, I believe that both politicians and political parties in general have sunk to a truly sad state of existence.

Why do the current crop of politicians (most of them) and political parties (all of them) place what is good for the party before what is good for the country? Can it be that it is because we (the voters), have been tested and have come-up wanting? Have we considered the future of our country and human-kind as less important than our social lives or which stores have what sales this week? How many of us no longer bother to research political platforms, candidates, or even current world events? How many of us rely solely on what our friends, neighbors, spouses, or children recommend in order to determine who is the best man or woman for the job when we go to the polling place? How many of us will actually vote the party line regardless of the values held by the individual candidates? How many of us have actually become this type of moral and ethical vegetable matter?

We, as a people, embody one of the greatest countries history has ever known. The problem is that we, as a country, appear to be drifting downward on the political evolutionary scale. Is it possible that we, as individual voters, have also evolved downward into the cesspool of greed and stupidity that United States politics has become? It certainly appears that a number of us (possibly approaching a majority) have... but, that is just my opinion!

Salem-News.com admittedly, is very critical of both American politics, as well as those of other nations that we perceive is being wrong in their motives and actions. At the same time, within these structures we criticize, are many outstanding people who make each day a better place for all those around them. They embody and personify the American spirit that is sometimes fleeting, but always present. These are some of the things Robert takes into account when writing commentary that is designed reach people, to "get them thinking" in his words, and indeed it does. Salem-News.com's goal is for all people to be on the same page, we appreciate Bob's more conservative approach toward that same goal."

What difference, at this point, does it make?

George Carlin, in one of his shows said:

"Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American schools, American churches, American homes, American business, American universities and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do. This is what we have to offer. Garbage in, garbage out."

Thanks for commenting and speaking your mind.

I have to agree with much of what you say Anonymous but we are all born with varying degrees of common sense. How intuitive or bright do you have to be to recognize that an athlete like Tim Tebow was being shredded by the Media because he would say a prayer of thanks after each touchdown? Why the mass media tried to paint that guy as downright awful if not evil for praying. Then we see the President and the mass media painting a professional athlete as an out-and-out hero because he chose to inform the world of his sexual preference.

Political correctness run amok and intolerance are byproducts of the state sponsored program to force God out everywhere and to try to make us believe the very mention of His name is evil. I'm sorry but unless someone did a lobotomy on people at birth, they should be able to see the farce being perpetrated by the political parties on the individual. They love nothing more than the Party against Party rhetoric running rampant. That way, no one is watching what they do very closely. No one is noticing which special interest groups are buying which politicians, no one is watching which corporations are giving the biggest political contributions and in turn getting the biggest federal contracts. I would be willing to bet very heavily that the average young U.S. citizen will spend 100 times more time chatting on Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace than they will researching the candidates and where they stand on issues that are critical to our country and the World. Now that is sad and it does not have as much to do with being dumbed down as it does with selfishness. Greed and selfishness are the altars at which too many of the voting public worship! Greed and selfishness have always existed in every country but in the last 30-40 years, they have gone pandemic in our country. Believe me Anonymous, what I am seeing going on in our country saddens me to the point of pain. The really frightening part is that the percentage of voters who have tasted the forbidden fruit of greed and selfishness and grown intoxicated by it grows daily and may already have reached the point of no return.

I have a difficult time blaming the people. For decades the dumbing down has been going on, thru the indoctrination centers they call education, the media etc. The few that own the media and control education are the ones to blame. I sometimes wonder how people such as myself, made it through the indoctrination. Not saying I know it all, but its easy to see this circus of communism, and total social control is not a good thing. I think this country is not divided between gays, abortion, and even illegal immigration. I think this country is now divided mostly from those that want to take care of themsleves, and those that want to be taken care of. For those that want to be taken care of? You should do a bit of research on who it is that says they will take care of you. You might want to change your mind. I do not go against the gay agenda, but I have read books from obama's masters that want to destroy the family. You can see it on MSNBC where commercials come out regularly saying "your children are not yours, they belong to the state" same with the education system. The gay agenda and the abortion venue are nothing but breaking up families so the state can control. The immigration issue is nothing but taking the culture of the U.S. to a third world country, totally dependant on the state..And the sad thing is, they dont do it by telling the truth, they do it thru deception, indoctrination, and so forth. You decide, wanna be part of truth and freedom that made this country strong?, or the lies and deception to make people indoctrinated and dependant on a few oligarchs that care nothing about you.
