Salem-News.com Sees Technical Problems Tuesday

An update on today's downtime, email problems and our scheduled trip to Iraq.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Technical issues have been the order of the day here at Salem-News.com today. Everything fortunately, has been resolved due to the teamwork of Matt Lintz, David Duncan and Bonnie King who were able to save the day and get the site mostly back online by 8:30 AM Pacific time.

When a site has a technical problem it can take many hours to the site to repropagate on the World Wide Web. Our apologies to our regular east coast visitors who have had to go more hours without us. We appreciate the emails, phone calls and MySpace messages sent to us today that managed to get through.

For those who have written to us today, we expect a large batch of email, probably several pages worth, to appear sometime during the night hours. For those with unanswered questions, etc. and important news that you tried to send our way, we apologize.

On another subject, we want our viewers to know that plans for our Tim King to visit Iraq are still intact. There have been a number of problems regarding paperwork and the Oregon Guard's Public Affairs office tells us that they are working with others in the military system to correct paperwork and clearance issues that arose unexpectedly.

The original plan had been for Tim to travel to Kuwait via Evergreen Aviation out of McMinnville. While all approvals were met, the Air Force at the last minute made a number of demands and requests that were somehow avoided or not encountered during Tim's coverage in Afghanistan over the winter of 2006/07.

Members of the community did step forward to help make this trip happen, and it will happen eventually. In the meanwhile we are sorry that our reporter was not allowed to gain access to Iraq as earlier planned. Tim King is already approved to travel to Iraq in August, so we are hoping to be able to get this first trip underway during which Tim will be embedded with Oregon National Guard units serving in Iraq.

If you have any questions or suggestions for the Salem-News.com staff, you can always email us at: newsroom@salem-news.com and we will return the contact.

Missed you-all during those off-Internet hours, and glad to be back in touch with this world. Re Iraq-trip, seems to me this endorses integrity by Tim since symptomatic for those in press really doing honest job, as others around nation now report. "War coverage" top possible shot for real journalist, and we all wish Tim well and rapid return for this one. Meanwhile "the campaign" now presents battlefield of very important color (no pun !) and demands rational-reader close-attention from all. GO IT, Salem-News !!!

I just hate those technical problems. I sure wish I new more about computors, but may sign up for a class that this retired contractor is teaching. Evidently it's all about knowing "code", and learning what others did not learn but feel they do know. I guess it's something about cloning and imaging... So confusing, I think I'll go get a pint down at Jefferson's Pub here in Belfast.
