(KILINOCHI, Sri Lanka) - The Tamil community in Montreal is in shock today after receiving a report that one of their members has been stabbed to death in Kumarapuram in Kilinochi, Sri Lanka. The family has been informed by friends that three people came and knocked at the door. When the victim opened the door he was stabbed to death. As most may be aware, this area is very highly militarised and nothing can happen without the knowledge of the Army and the paramilitary who are working with the army. The victim had been in Canada for many years. He leaves behind his wife and three children, the youngest of whom is still at school in Montreal. From the news reaching Canada, the locals are very frightened. Though, every single day bodies are fished out of wells or discovered from behind the bushes there, so far those with foreign passports have been safe. They fret that if this could happen to one with a Canadian passport what might happen to them. Man arrived from Canada to watch his lands at Killinochchie Kumarapuram area. The victim has been identified as 53-year old Antoypillai Mahendrarasa. A tense situation arose in the Paranthan area, where residents stated none of the suspects had been arrested in connection this alleged murder and also said they all were suspicious over their security in the area. Media diplomats said foreign nationals who arrive Sri Lanka also not permitted to enjoy freedom in this country. This murder has created fear among foreigners scheduled to visit Sri Lanka. However it is reported that police are carrying out further investigations in this regard.
