(HARRISVILLE, N.H.) - Do you know how your Senators and Congressional Representatives voted? Are you aware of all issues coming-up for a vote? You should be... and you can be!

As conscientious U.S. citizens, it is our duty to exercise our right to vote for those individuals who would represent us in government. All too often, the voters of our country simply cast their vote for the incumbent believing that they have experience in the position and consequently will represent our values and beliefs better.

Another group of citizens believe that one political party or the other will always do a better job of representing our core values and beliefs. Well, if you have tracked the progression of government effectiveness in our country for the last 40 or so years, you know that is just not true.

Your vote is the most valuable tool you have at your disposal to make adjustments to our government but in order to do that with an intelligent and measured stroke, you must be aware of exactly how your incumbent representatives have voted on every issue that came before them. Once you have these facts in hand, you can clearly and accurately determine whether a specific incumbent has represented your core values and beliefs. Without that information, you are simply shouting “Rah-Rah” team based on past political party affiliation or taking a shot in the dark.

With the knowledge of exactly how a particular incumbent has voted on the issues, you are positioned to make a more astute decision as to whether that incumbent has represented your core values and beliefs and whether he or she has made the best moves for our country and the world. To do any less is to shirk your duty as a conscientious citizen of the country and of the world.

The good news is that there is a web site that tracks how Congressional Representatives and Senators vote on every issue, which issues are coming-up for a vote, and provides a simplified means for you to contact your representatives before they vote. This web site (Congress.org) will even send you E-Mails to keep you informed, should you forget to visit it frequently enough. The following is a hyperlink to that web site and the blurb they use to define what they do:

Track your Senators and Representative’s votes by E-Mail

Each week (that Congress is in session), you will receive:

·         Key Votes by your two Senators and U.S. Representative.

·         Links to send E-Mail to your members of Congress using pre-addressed forms.

·         Upcoming votes for your review and a chance to offer E-Mail input before they vote.

This is a free service that makes it much easier to stay informed and to get involved. I strongly recommend that you sign-up for this free service and use it regularly to make your voice heard in Washington, D.C.

It does not matter if your core values are conservative or liberal; whether your past party affiliation was Democrat, Republican, Tea Party, or Tupperware Party... you have the potential to help shape the future of our country and to help our country have a positive impact on the rest of the world. You are the true strength of our country... not a corrupt Congress! Stay informed, make your voice heard, and exercise your right to vote your own values and beliefs. Shirk your duty as a conscientious U.S. citizen at your own peril... but, that is just my opinion!

Salem-News.com admittedly, is very critical of both American politics, as well as those of other nations that we perceive is being wrong in their motives and actions. At the same time, within these structures we criticize, are many outstanding people who make each day a better place for all those around them. They embody and personify the American spirit that is sometimes fleeting, but always present.

These are some of the things Robert takes into account when writing commentary that is designed reach people, to "get them thinking" in his words, and indeed it does. Salem-News.com's goal is for all people to be on the same page, we appreciate Bob's more conservative approach toward that same goal."
