Mar-08-2012 16:55TweetFollow @OregonNews Rush Joins Peter Gabriel and 35 Advertisers, Pulling Plug on LimbaughSalem-News.comTake off Limbaugh, you hoser..!
(SALEM) - It’s been a bad week for controversial radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, and perhaps it is no fluke that his recent offensive comments toward a female law student, have transitioned into a load of companies pulling the Rush plug... yuck! Peter Gabriel took a stand earlier this week, demanding his songs not be used by Limbaugh... now Rush has joined Peter Gabriel in ordering Limbaugh to keep their music off his show. As UltimateClassicRock reports, more than 35 companies have pulled their advertising from his syndicated radio show. After learning that the perpetually controversial Limbaugh played his namesake’s ‘The Spirit of Radio’ while demanding to see tapes of Fluke having sex, the attorney for the Canadian-based Rush, Robert Farmer, has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Limbaugh’s show. Stating the the highly controversial, ultra right-wing show is in essence, "a political broadcast", Farmer says it amounts to an "infringement of Rush’s copyrights and trademarks. The public performance of Rush’s music is not licensed for political purposes and any such use is in breach of public performance licenses and constitutes copyright infringement." It is shocking, but now in case anyone ever wondered, this man who represents the 1%, all types of war, puts down women, and far worse; a true enemy of the poor and disenfranchised, has been hijacking the music of these bands all along like a pirate. So much for personal and social values, copyright infringements and overall personal responsibility. This is not the first time Limbaugh’s use of music has gotten him in trouble. In 1999, Chrissie Hynde and 'Pretenders' complained about Limbaugh's use of their hit, ‘My City Was Gone’ which he selected long ago as his theme song. Sadly in many respects, Hynde did allow Limbaugh to play the song... but it cost him a $100,000 donation to PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and as part of the deal, Limbaugh had to speak out against chemical testing on animals. For your information: I just had an update on how the radio advertising business works by a childhood friend who runs several radio stations in both Oregon and Washington for the Rush Limbaugh program. In short Limbaugh has his own network (EIB, very lucrative, and growing) and over 600 radio affiliates. He does not get revenue from those affiliates, who are still prospering playing his 3 hour program. For example in each hour of programming you have at least 10 commercials, so 3 times 10 equals 30 (a low ball number) for the 3 hour show. Take just 600 of the radio affiliates and multiply 30 commercials and you get 18,000 seperate commercials a day, or approximately 90,000 in a week of programming. Rush Limbaugh has gone on record stating that his shows advertising is growing, and for those who leave several are bidding to come on. He has over 20 million listeners. He has the top show for military listeners, and the Pentagon stated it will not remove him. Compare that to the top ten television shows. He has a legal responsibilty to be truthful with his current number of listeners for pricing commercials, otherwise it's fraud. He states that many of the so-called outfits that left his show never advertised, and many of those who did leave are begging to come back. Consider that lies (generally publicity stunts) about him have been going on for years, and to no avail. See below LA Times article. "The Los Angeles Times reported (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2012/03/rush-limbaugh-advertiser.html): A Limbaugh spokesman said that California mattress company Sleep Train asked to restart a “voiced endorsement” from Limbaugh that it had publicly cut off last week... Sleep Train President Dale Carlsen wanted to advertise again on the program as per his personal email request to Rush. According to that email, Limbaugh himself considered the company's request and denied it... “Unfortunately," the email continues, "your public comments were not well received by our audience, and did not accurately portray either Rush Limbaugh's character or the intent of his remarks. Thus, we regret to inform you that Rush will be unable to endorse Sleep Train in the future.” “Rush appreciates your long friendship and your past support, and we wish you good luck in the future.” According to the Washington Post, Sleep Train has been with Limbaugh for over 25 years." http://www.examiner.com/conservative-in-spokane/sleep-train-begs-rush-limbaugh-take-us-back-limbaugh-request-denied
