Mar-02-2009 22:25TweetFollow @OregonNews Marijuana Misinformation & Incredible Duplicity by a Money Grubbing MercenaryDr. Phillip Leveque Salem-News.comDr. Phillip Leveque is a WWII Combat Veteran, Professor of Pharmacology, Forensic Toxicologist and Osteopathic Physician.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) - After studying the Pharmacology of cannabis/marijuana for some fifty years and treating some 4 thousand patients, very little surprises me. Over the weekend I did get the shock of my life. I accidentally turned up the name Andrea Barthwell on my computer and an absolutely incredible amount of garbage was regurgitated. I had seen the lady on Montel Williams TV show about marijuana and his own case of successfully treated Multiple Sclerosis. She was identified as the Deputy Drug Czar for (Drug) Demand Reduction. I thought she must be a political hack feather merchant pit bull attack dog whose job was saying every bad thing she could think of about medical marijuana whether it was true or not. Actually it was Misinformation with a capital M. She had Montel’s voice cracking in violent frustration at the end of the show. Montel is an Annapolis graduate and Marine officer and those guys are tough as old combat boots. When I found out she was actually and M.D. I figured it was “mail order” from Mexico or maybe Mars. She worked and spewed her poison under Czar Walters and G. W. Bush for 4 years, 2002 – 2006, but she actually resigned in 2004 to run for the senate seat won by President Obama. Thanks be to God. She graduated from University of Michigan Medical School in 1980 and worked with drug addicts. She found that marijuana deprecation was a good way to go with as many lies she could dream up. That’s what got her to the White House at a damn good salary. She went all over the U.S. spewing this poison. She was finally outed by Peter Guither about 2007 when she was fraudulently stating she was sponsored by a very prominent drug abuse advocacy group. Guither found out she was actually working for G.W. Pharmaceuticals the producer of Sativex a medical oral spray cannabis/marijuana preparation which was marijuana in liquid form. Guither wrote, “She was willing to sell her services to the highest bidder.” She still says, “Marijuana is not medicine, you don’t know what is in it.” Well surprise, surprise, Dr. Andrea. Sativex contains the same chemicals you decry as a “cruel hoax and snake oil”. Even the LA Times headlined her speech there as “A haze of misinformation clouds medical marijuana”. Michigan just legalized medical marijuana no thanks to her. **********************************************************

Amen to that. There are thousands of perfectly relevant and beneficial reasons as to why medical marijuana should be legalized. People don't O.D. on THC. They O.D. on the things that are so quickly, easily, and most commonly prescribed by the majority of the doctors here in the states. Things like Vicodin, Valume, Oxycontin, etc. It is completely absurd for the American Government to have been allowed to control this incredibly beneficial medicine for so long. When will things change? When will we as the people have the power. The ability to make change. It is not the bad things done by those who inspire evil which frightens me most. . .it is the indifference of those who are good.

Although cannabis was a medicinal plant for thousands of years, its medical use was suppressed and banned throughout most of the 20th century in the US. During this time, major scientific breakthroughs were made in Israel, Spain, Italy and Brazil. These breakthroughs are propelling the natural plant compounds called cannabinoids into the "wonder drugs of the 21st century". 13 states have already legalized medical cannabis. Boy do I hate hyprocrites and so-called paid for "drug czars." I'm still shocked that the American people put up with this crap. They should all be hopping mad about the entire politics behind cannibis. As a visitor travelling through East Africa from Canada, I'm now convinced that the biggest disease here and throughout the world is not cancer, heart disease, HIV/AIDS et al. Instead, it's IGNORANCE. Period! Shame on the citizens for letting this nonsense to proliferate. VOTE WISELY!! :-) - Maxwell (aka MaxTheITpro)

I'm curious, do you know why GW Pharm would hire this woman, and what her job description was? The only reason I ask is because I genuinely thought GW was more enlightened on the issue of medical marijuana. I happen to know an employee of GW Pharm who is a very effective advocate for marijuana, and he seems content with GW. My instinct tells me that maybe my colleague was hired to help perfect Sativex, and this lady was hired to help make sure that Sativex is the best cannabis drug on the market (i.e. keeping actual cannabis off the market). Any thoughts?

When will the feds get it? When will we demand freedom to choose our own medicine? Call or write your law makers at all levels. Write one each day, now is the time to scream bloody murder. If Cannabis is not medicine then why does the Dept. of Health and Human Servc. hold a patent on it? US Patent 6630507 - Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants US Patent Issued on October 7, 2003 Abstract Claims Description Full Text 6630507 Abstract Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia.

Editor: Dig it Steven, it isn't going to happen. These comments are approved and/or disapproved by live people. Your opening sentence by the way makes no sense. I deleted your post because it was propaganda; what part don't you get?

HAHAHA!!! Get 'em editor! Dr., what a great article. Keep screaming, and backing it up with your credentials. Good job. People like Mrs. Barthwell, and Steven up there are really the only thing harmful about Cannabis. One other thing, are you Mexican? Marijuana is not an English word. Even the law it self has to clarify that they are talking about cannabis when they say marijuana. Stop using that racist word please. -Dan

Dr. Leveque, you are way off base, and the reason you are off base is because... (deleted)
Editor: Sorry Steven, your propaganda is untrue and will not be published here. There is probably no individual alive who has spent more time at the top levels studying the medical effects of marijuana than Dr. Leveque. It is a fact that it is extremely helpful for many people. It is also a fact that the big pharmaceutical companies are doing everything possible right now to falsely discredit this natural herb placed on the planet by our creator.
