Jun-30-2008 22:38TweetFollow @OregonNews Parental Rights Organizations Across the Nation Will Encroach on U.S. Capitol for Civil Rights EventTim King Salem-News.comA similar event is being held in Salem, Oregon on July 26th.
(OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich.) - Children’s and Parent’s Rights organizations from across the nation are scheduled to encroach on Washington DC this August 15th & 16th at the Upper Senate Park. They say they are doing it because government policies do not reflect what is truly best for children and good parents. Organizer Larry Holland says the event is bringing the major issues facing parents to the legislators’ doorsteps, their backyards, and their offices. The coalition involves numerous individuals, organizations, and agencies and Holland says that the list of members is growing daily as August draws near. He says that collectively, they aim to bring solutions to many crises that are affecting America in this landmark event. Holland says this event is not to be confused with last year’s successful event, a rally held under the name DC RALLY 2007 and organized largely by Minister Ronald Smith of Children Need Both Parents, Inc. which is scheduled again for 2009. "Where we have a government that thinks it has the apparent authority to confiscate children at will, as we can see from the recent issues in Texas earlier this year, something needs to be done." Holland stated. He went on to say,, "we are dealing with a fundamental liberty and civil rights issue that has to be recognized and respected by our government, the protected right of parenthood." According to Holland, various groups across the nation, "aren’t willing to compromise liberty and let their government run on autopilot any longer." "Somewhere along the lines, the government stopped believing that the Constitution was a restriction on them and not a restriction on the people." Holland says this event will also welcome a number of cyclists that are pedaling bicycles from Michigan’s Capitol all the way to Washington DC to support a child’s right to two parents. The group says you can learn more about this civil rights event, by calling "Write to Parent" at 800-883-9619. Organizations that have not secured their exhibition table can do so through August 8th 2008 by using the toll-free telephone number. You can also visit their Website, at dcfestival2008.com. Oregon Event Jenifer Saroian, who has written articles for Salem-News.com on this subject, says more than 300 family advocates will gather Saturday, July 26th, in support of all the families who have suffered hardships over actions by the state of Oregon Department of Human Services and Children's Protective Service. "We currently have about 300 people who have confirmed that they will attend our rally. Susan Detlefsen of motherinterruted will be there to speak, along with myself, and others." Saroian says, "everybody who is anybody will be there." The event will begin at noon and the event will run through 4:00 PM. She says you can check the OFR and AFRA websites for more specifics. I just looked at www.oregonfamilyrights.com and saw a bumper sticker section, I found this one - "Oregon: Welcome to Little Mexico", there are others similar. I won't be attending the rally. Do we need more hatred? Do the members know what they are endorsing?
