(PORTLAND, Ore.) - This afternoon, Wednesday June 29, 2011, at 3:06 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to a residence in the 3600 Block of Southeast 28th Avenue on the report that a 2-year-old child had fallen out of a 4th floor window. While officers were on their way to the call they received additional information that the child's family picked up the child and got in a cab to go to the hospital. Officers went to both the hospital and the original location to investigate the fall. The child remains in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Per policy, detectives from the Child Abuse Team responded to conduct an investigation into the fall. Detectives examined the residence and observed a bed next to the window that the child fell from. At this point in the investigation, the incident appears to be an accident. The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind people to consider using a window safeguard to control the height or width of your window openings, especially in residences with small children. That's cool that the kid lived, sounds like a miracle! Did he fall into like a bush or something? 40 feet is a big drop especially for a small child.

Do parents even give a darn anymore? How about parents who are suppose to be responsible for their children and make sure they are not harmed? How about just watching your child, especially in this age. Why does have the Police give information how to keep a child safe at home? How about just common sense? The Government (Federal, State, Local) has to tell us how to do things. Are we that irresponsible that we can't even take care of everyday chores and responsibilities? Pretty sad
