(MONMOUTH, Ore.) - One person was killed and three others were injured in a two car collision on SR 99W south of Monmouth on Thursday evening. Around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3rd, State Police troopers from the Salem and McMinnville Areas responded to a reported head on collision on SR 99W and Parker Rd. in Polk county. Troopers say the investigation showed a 2000 Nissan Xterra, being driven by 19-year old Amanda Parsons of Missoula Montana, was northbound on SR 99W when it drifted off the road and onto the northbound shoulder. Police say Parsons over corrected and the Nissan crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Honda Civic, being driven by 77-year old Jack Mitchell of Newport, that was traveling southbound on SR 99W. Jack Mitchell was pronounced deceased at the scene and his passenger, 83-year old Nancy Mitchell of Newport, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with serious injuries. Parsons and her passenger, 19-year old Tyler Funk of Portland, were taken to Salem Hospital with minor injuries. SR 99W was closed for approximately three hours while troopers from the OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash. OSP was assisted at the scene by deputies from the Polk Co. Sheriff's office and ODOT. Source: Oregon State Police Salem Area Command Articles for June 3, 2010 | Articles for June 4, 2010 | Articles for June 5, 2010 | googlec507860f6901db00.htmlQuick Links
