Those recruited to participate the public announcements are all well known and respected Sri Lankans. The message is and was welcomed.
[Return to Top]However the main reason that there has been no repetition of the July 1983 riots, of which I was also a victim, forcing me to leave on that day, is because of the military strength of the LTTE and that kept the Tamils in Colombo.
The other reason is the Tamil diaspora being such an organized and vociferous force. The Tamils in Colombo and elsewhere are well insured, and the insurance companies and underwriters are the GOSL and the London exchange. It is too much of a risk and inviting disaster for the Rajapakses and GOSL. They will have no excuse and the world and IC has changed since July 1983.
