Man Killed By His Wife 15 Minutes After Leaving Jail

It took just minutes for the man to return home, make his way into the house, and be shot fatally by his wife.

(CLEVELAND) - A man in Athens, Tenn., was shot and killed by his wife less than 15 minutes after he was released from jail.

It began last Saturday when police officers in Athens, Tenn. were dispatched to a report of a suicidal 34-year-old man named Robert Vann Marshall. Responding officers were advised that the man was threatening to kill his wife and children, local television outlet WBIR reported. Marshall was captured by police later at a local Athens Super 8 Motel. Officers say they found a handgun as well as narcotics in the room.

Police learned Marshall had a standing restraining order that his wife had filed against him, WBIR reported. Marshall was arrested and charged with firearm and drug offenses, then taken to the McMinn County Justice Center.

Police say reviewed the restraining order with Marshall while he was in their custody. They say he was provided with a copy of the document, and clearly instructed to stay away from his wife and family home, or he would be arrested again.

The jail released Marshall just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

It took just minutes for the man to return home, make his way into the house, and be shot fatally by his wife.

Man Killed By His Wife 15 Minutes After Leaving Jail

Mr. Robert Vann Marshall was supposed to show love and affection,
So, if that’s true why was there a court ordered decree of protection?
This Tennessee man allegedly violated that order while breaking in,
As he had one thing in mind beating the crap out of his spouse again.

But maybe just maybe this time there was no desire to beat-up his wife,
Minutes earlier he was released from jail for threatening to end her life,
And not just her but he had murder on his mind also regarding their kids,
With that being the scenario the Mrs. was totally justified in what she did.

Saturday July 6th from McMinn County Jail at 1:27 P.M. he was released,
Exactly 15 minutes later 1:42 from the hands of his wife he was deceased,
1:38 police received a call as the husband was forcing his way in the home,
From prior experience this time his defenseless wife was no longer alone.

But this time a weapon was within arms reach because she already knew,
What the father of their kids had already done and what he vowed to do,
No! Not to love, cherish, honor, in sickness & in health or even to obey,
Lovey-dovey promises many say but do not mean on their weeding day.

These incidents are not rare whereas domestic violence is a daily occurrence,
The reason being, a protection order is by no means a safety net of assurance,
County Sheriff Joe Guy said it’s, “just than a piece of paper” and that is why,
More often than not, the women, their children, even family members will die.

So, why did this McMinn County Law Enforcement Official say that it’s rare?
"The process does not end in more violence", is it possible that very few care?
Domestic Violence Shelters are over crowded & for safety women are moved,
Constantly from one clandestine shelter to another OK, what does this prove?

Currently there are no charges because Guy believes she acted in self defense,
And with that being the case his statement makes absolutely no common sense,
It is by no means an isolated incident where husbands break into the residence,
Ah, no wonder irate husbands and boyfriends will fear little if any recompense.

O.J. Simpson regularly beat Nicole but never served serious time behind bars,
Telling the judge it would interfere with his gig promoting Hertz Rent-A-Cars,
You see, back in the day $500,000 per year was a significant amount of cash,
And she was his was lawfully wedded wife so he had the right to beat her ass.

Yes, she called 911 to report the actions of her husband but what happens next?
Now the call goes out over the radio then officers respond in cars but not in jets,
Usually police arrive after a shooting or a beating that’s so tumultuous & severe,
As long as the assailants are alive thousands will live in fear every calendar year.

Sheriff’s own police department said he was irate, suicidal and possibly armed,
Was he, “breaking in” to shower her with love and affection or do bodily harm?
Exactly where does Mr. Guy get the notion that it’s rare for violence to escalate?
Had not this brave women taken action once again cops would have been too late.

We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end.

Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. You can write to Luke Easter at: lyricsfromlucas@aol.com

Oh these liberals. Have a poem ready for any idiot out there. This guy was not allowed to go home. The wife blew him away. Good for her. Stop blaming everyone but him. He threatened his wife and kids. Better him then them. But not for you. The victim becomes the good guy and the good guy become the suspect. And you're not change anything with a stupid dumb poem. Now go and put some flowers and teddy bears on the house. That is just as stupid.

You are not understanding the point, this poem does not advocate for the abuser, in fact I have no idea where you came up with that.
