(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - The Washington County Major Crimes Team and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Unit are currently on the scene of a fatal shooting in western Washington County. This information is very preliminary and the investigation in ongoing. At this time investigators are reporting that a 15-year-old boy from Beaverton has been killed in what appears to be an accidental shooting. Sgt Dave Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office says it happened when the boy and four others were target shooting in a wooded area off of Highway 47 and north of Highway 26. "Investigators are looking into the series of events, but at some point the 15-year-old boy was shot in the torso by one of the others in his party. The three remaining members of the party got the 15-year-old into their car and started heading south on Highway 47 trying to get cellular phone coverage." Once they received cell phone coverage they called 911. "Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel responded and met the group on Highway 47 near Highway 26. Medical personnel called for a LifeFlight helicopter while they worked on the 15-year-old patient." Sadly however, the boy passed away by the time the LifeFlight arrived on the scene, according to Thompson. "At this time we are not releasing the names of any of the involved parties pending notification of next of kin. We do not have any further details at this time; we expect to have more in the morning and will release additional information as it becomes available," Thompson added.
