(PORTLAND, Ore.) - One Portland motorist found out how treacherous the roads can be in the hills of SW Portland Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.

Lt. Allen Oswalt with Portland Fire, says with the roads covered with a blanket of wet, slippery snow caused some tense moments for this driver.

"As he was carefully negotiating the curves and hills of SW Humphrey Boulevard, he slowed for the upcoming corner and slid off the side of the road," Oswalt said.

He said, "Without traction devices, the slope of the road and the slick wet snow left him balanced over the edge of a 60-foot drop."

The occupants of the car were urged by bystanders to stay in the car until help arrived, and they followed the directions according to Oswalt.

He says Portland's Fire & Rescue Engine 15 crew were the first firefighters to arrive on the scene.

"They attached anchor straps to the wheels of the car and secured it to a tree, to prevent it from slipping over the edge. After the car was secure, the three occupants were removed without incident."

Oswalt says there were no injuries and no damage to the car.
