And why should it matter if Mariah had a little too much champagne?

(SALEM, Ore.) - A recent award acceptance speech by pop queen turned actress Mariah Carey, might be the most memorable aspect of a recent Palm Springs film festival. The performer might have been a little tipsy when she was escorted onto the stage at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. It made for a humorous moment that was the first thing to hit YouTube, as Sean Penn predicted later that evening from the stage.

The noted diva singer was there to accept the Breakthrough Actress of the Year award for her acclaimed role in the drama 'Precious'; based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire.

After giving the film's director Lee Daniels a long spinning hug, Carey, in a dazzling beaded black full-length gown by Herve Leger, began to address the audience.

Oh my goodness, OK, I love you. I have to say... this is... and please forgive me because I'm a little bit..."

Someone in the audience shouted, "drunk!".

Carey pointed to that person and said, "Yeah".

And why should it matter if Mariah had a little too much champagne?

The event was celebrating its 21st anniversary, and its founder was certainly someone who would have probably found plenty of humor in it.

The festival was founded in 1990 by Palm Springs' Mayor at the time, Sonny Bono.

This year's Festival will only be partly remembered for Mariah Carey's silly stage slurs, it included over 180 films from approximately 70 countries.
