Feb-14-2008 10:55TweetFollow @OregonNews Hezbollah Says Car Bomb Death will Lead to Open War with IsraelTim King Salem-News.comKilled last week, Imad Mughnieh had accused by the US of planning attacks on Western targets during the Lebanese civil war.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Tensions in the world spurred by the war in Iraq and the Western support of sixty years of Israeli policies have driven tensions to the boiling point in the Mid-East. The new millennium has seen the United States transform from the role of world savior, to a nation headed by an administration that condones violent acts against perceived enemies just as quickly as it condemns them for the exact same actions. The secretary-general of Hezbollah has said that the group is ready for open warfare with Israel. He made the comments in a speech to supporters mourning the death of a senior commander, Imad Mughnieh, who died in a car bomb blast in the Syrian capital Damascus late on Tuesday. Mughnieh had accused by the US of planning attacks on Western targets during the Lebanese civil war. Hassan Nasrallah said on Thursday that Israel is responsible for the terrorist act and it has "crossed the borders", while Syria, a supporter of Hezbollah, branded the attack a "cowardly and terrorist act". In blaming Israel for the death, Nasrallah said that the July 2006 war with Israel was continuing, although not on a military level. "With this murder, its timing, location and method - Zionists [Israel] if you want this kind of open war, let the whole world listen: Let this war be open," he told Al Jazeera. Mughnieh is accused of involvement in the bombing of the US embassy in 1983 that resulted in the deaths of several Marines. The US welcomed Mughnieh's killing, saying that he had been responsible for many deaths. "The world is a better place without this man in it. He was a cold-blooded killer, a mass murderer and a terrorist responsible for countless innocent lives lost," Sean McCormack, the US state department spokesman, said on Wednesday. Mughnieh was widely suspected of being behind a wave of Western hostage-taking in Lebanon in the 1980s, claims denied by Hezbollah. Speaking in a videotaped message to supporters at the funeral service for Mughnieh in southern Beirut, Nasrallah said: "Like all human beings we have a sacred right to defend ourselves." "We will do all that it takes to defend our country and people." "Mughnieh's blood will lead to the elimination of Israel. These words are not an emotional reaction," he told supporters in a televised speech. But the Israeli prime minister's office denied allegations that it had played any role in Mughnieh's killing. "Israel rejects the attempts of terror elements to attribute to Israel any involvement in this incident," Ehud Olmert's office said in a statement on Wednesday. The commotion has caused Israel to order its military, embassies and Jewish institutions around the world to increase security measures in case of revenge attacks, Israeli officials said Thursday, on condition of anonymity. Iran also accused Israel of carrying out the attack. ------------------------------------------------------------ Tim King is a former U.S. Marine with almost twenty years experience on the west coast as a television news producer, photojournalist and reporter. watever, you are all messed up in the head... at least during the war when hezbollah defended lebanon, they only bombed milary bases and marine bases in israel,,, do you know what israel was bombing when i was werking in lebanon? 4 churches, 12 school, 31 bridges, 8 orphanges, 6 hospitals, 3 ambulances, dozens of farms and over 400 homes... if it werent for hezbollah, israel would occupy 3/4 of lebanon and take over, so if you dont know what the hell ur talking about, keep ur mouth shut, trust me.. no matter what the hezbollah do, they will always be more merciful then the zionists and americans.. shame to the zionists, who claim they are jewish, do they not know that judiasm is a religion of peace? and shame to the americans, who claim to know jesus (pbuh) , do they not know that he condemns their actions?

Long overdue, wish I had been the one to get the B%$@#*and! He was involved in killing several of my friends, and may more of his associates soon join him. A very evil pos! War is hell, but these scumbags are as about as concerned about the Geneva Convention as various msm's are about reporting facts!

Bob, I was actually in the Marine Corps at the time of the bombing, and a member of my squadron who was on embassy duty was killed. But I was not one of those who were deployed to Lebanon for that. At any rate, I am talking about the Marine Barracks and I think the use of the word embassy is probably wrong. If so, I am glad you pointed it out. In gathering information for this story I visited a number of different sources. I thought the State Department spokesman's quote summed up the U.S. position, hence the "welcomed his death" part. I hoped that the story conveyed the points that Al Jazeera and other international media groups were reporting, to show that the repercussions from this car bomb death are far reaching, and to illustrate the point that whether it admits it or not, millions believe Israel was behind it.

You state Imad "Mughnieh is accused of involvement in the bombing of the US embassy in 1983 that resulted in the deaths of several Marines. The US welcomed Mughnieh's killing, saying that he had been responsible for many deaths." Wasn't he also accused of what was considered the first suiside bombing, that being the Marine barracks in Beirut. My question, where was this embassy you refer to, and which offical made the statement that our country "welcomed" his death? We give more justice and presumption of innocence to serial killers and canibals in this country then to those suspected freedom fighters in the Middle East. Perhaps you can answer the questions, what was the Cole doing in Yemen and the what were the marines doing in Beirut? Warmongering? If so then they weren't innocent civilians.

You are a poorly informed idiot to say the following. Perhaps you should go to the mid east and meet these people. You said "to a nation headed by an administration that condones violent acts against perceived enemies just as quickly as it condemns them for the exact same actions." Tim King to "Informed": This is the only directly insulting comment you will post here like this, they aren't allowed. But since it is personal toward me I will publish it. And for the record, I leave for Iraq at the end of next month, and I spent last winter covering the war in Afghanistan. Have your politics, endorse what you want, but don't suggest that I am uninformed. Also, have some class and make your point without being directly insulting toward anybody, it will be received better. I am extremely behind our fighting men and women with my coverage, just ask those I have spent time around, but I don't agree with warmongering and for the most part, neither do they.[Return to Top]
