God I Am!

A beautifully written poem encompassing our resident Christian Poet's take on religion and God.

(CLEVELAND) - This week at Salem-News.com we published an article titled, Love for Jesus Can Bring Christians, Muslims Together by Ibrahim Hooper.

I have always been fascinated by the fact that the Holy Qur'an acknowledges the life of Jesus Christ and that was the biggest point Ibrahim was making, I believe.

From that article: The Prophet Muhammad himself sought to erase any distinctions between the message he taught and that taught by Jesus, who he called God's "spirit and word." Prophet Muhammad said: "Both in this world and in the Hereafter, I am the nearest of all people to Jesus, the son of Mary. The prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one."

One thing you can count on at Salem-News.com is a variety of opinions and a constant push toward unity and peace. I will publish writings from any member of our team who advocates a good point; I certainly don't have to agree with it, and they in turn do not have to agree with me. Ken Ramey has written about religion here since our first days, and he might best be described as agnostic!

Luke and I have a great deal in common and while we do not have the same beliefs on several points regarding religion, I love his drive and dedication. This man cares about racism, the abuse of women and children, injustice, corruption, whistleblower advocacy; all of the same things we spend so much time writing about.

This beautifully written poem encompasses Luke's take on religion and God and his faith is quite obviously that of a strong Christian.

"GOD I AM!"

I alone created the heavens and the earth,
No other gives life and all that it’s worth,
I made peace in the storm, calm to the sea,
And you have a problem greater than ME?

I ask you MY child what could possibly be?
There from the beginning through all eternity?
Did another one speak, “let there be light?”
Who else’s name separates day from night?

Reminds ME of the Book of Numbers 13: 33,
Are you a grasshopper? Is that a giant you see?
What’s causing you to shake and shrivel in fear?
Are you trusting that no harm will come near?

Exactly whom are you questioning with doubt?
Did I not many times in the past bring you out?
Is the Creator a human that HE should tell a lie?
Nothing living or dead is more powerful than I.

What strength blows the trees from left to right?
In a thunder storm who makes the lightning strike?
Why does the Sun rise in the east and set in the west?
The Holy Spirit strives for more why do you settle for less?

Do you know who makes the rain and melts the snow?
Cause a rose bush to whither or an oak tree to grow?
Who brought forth the water and why do rivers flow?
Did man coin the phrase, “you’ll reap what you sow?”

What is it that gives strength and subdues power?
Time will end, exactly what minute of what hour?
Too hard for you, just tell ME what year and day?
Who gives life 1 minute & in the next takes it away?

How many planets, can you number the stars?
Maybe life on Jupiter, is water really on Mars?
What is the total count of grain in all the sand?
Tell ME in whose image did GOD create man?

There’s something that’s known as Darwin’s Theory,
Speculating evolution from the ape instead of ME,
I don’t eat bananas; make faces, swing tree to tree,
But, I did create the fruit, gorilla and chimpanzee.

Big body, small wings, impossible for a bee to fly,
Scientists are baffled how they hover around the hive,
Study, years of study and still no one can explain why,
To the drawing board go the geniuses for one more try.

Joshua 1: 5, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you,”
Is there another Jehovah who will bring you through?
You’re not a boy scout or a girl scout accept the wait,
Soldiers aren’t in a playground, it’s war, keep the faith.

Be careful going before GOD seeking a bigger boat,
The larger your ship, the more water it needs to float,
Is the end result rewarding? Yes! This is so very true,
But, streams, lakes & rivers come before the ocean blue.

Another name for these three are, trials, tribulations and storms,
A striking difference from what is considered safety or the norm,
Hebrews 13: 8, “Jesus is the same yesterday, today & tomorrow,”
Deuteronomy 28: 12, “you shall lend to many but shall not borrow.”

Here is some knowledge although to some it might be news?
There’s only one Creator of everything and not just the Jews,
Speak about Scientology, Buddhism, Hindu this, Atheist that,
Judgment Day is no matter who we’re with or where we’re at.

Only Alpha & Omega forms everything and gives it life,
Taking a rib from the man Adam so he could have a wife,
When adversity rears its ugly head be firm as you stand,
Whatever the situation, You'll Win Because 'GOD I AM!'

Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in.

We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end.

Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. You can write to Luke Easter at: lyricsfromlucas@aol.com
