(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Washington County services continued today despite a snow and wind storm affecting the Portland urban area. The following is a summary of county activities over the last 24 hours and public guidance for coping with the winter weather:

County Roads Remain Open

Sanding and plowing operations over the last 24 hours have kept all snow response routes on county-maintained roadways open.

Drivers are still encouraged to stay off the roads, if at all possible, by postponing trips or taking public transportation.

Updates on the conditions of the road system and the location of priority routes in Washington County can be found at: wc-roads.com or by calling (503)-846-ROAD (503-846-7623)

County Facilities Operational

All county facilities opened for regular business hours today, although the public is asked to remain cautious in parking lots and walkways due to ice.

Any changes to county operational hours will be posted to: http://pdxinfo.net and to co.washington.or.us

Homeless Shelters and Warming Centers Activated A severe weather sheltering network for the homeless has activated in Washington County. Families and individuals seeking shelter and other support services are urged to call 2-1-1 (or (503) 222-5555 if using a cell phone).

Updates about the availability of these emergency shelters are available at: 211info.org

Safely Check on Neighbors with Special Needs

Although countywide Meals on Wheels services are operating as usual, county officials encourage residents to safely check in on elderly neighbors and others who may not have family or support available during severe weather.

Information about how to cope during cold weather and avoid related injuries can be found at the Washington County Web site at: co.washington.or.us
