(LOS ANGELES) - A young political leader walks into a Los Angeles hospital never to walk out again. Three days following elective surgery, Lloyd Monserratt dies suddenly and unexpectedly with no cause given for his death. He was 36 years old. Word spread of his death quickly with over 70 people filling the ICU ward of the hospital. Media outlets began contacting the members of congress that he consulted for and helped. The City of Los Angeles holds a special session during the Los Angeles City Council meeting adjourning in his memory and passing a motion to dedicate a LA City library in his memory. Lloyd Monserratt was the well respected political and community leader who was known for his dedication to community and to a cause. In contrast, Lloyd’s surgeon had a drug problem and a weakness for prostitution. During the three days that Lloyd was in the hospital, he was never told that his condition was deteriorating. In fact, Lloyd‘s surgeon told his fiancée that his surgery was a success. Hours before Lloyd died, another physician entered his room and stated that Lloyd “was exactly where he should be.” The tragic reality was that Lloyd was on his deathbed. Lloyd’s fiancée, Michele Monserratt-Ramos, will join host Vickie Travis on the December 9th edition of American Dawn where she will discuss medical negligence, the Medical Board of California’s unwillingness to investigate Lloyd’s death, and the project to end confidential physician diversion in the State of California. “Although Lloyd spent his career working for the rights of others, he had no rights inside that hospital, said Michele Monserratt-Ramos. “Lloyd worked to empower Californians yet the State of California failed Lloyd.” American Dawn can be heard on hthradio.net on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. PT/4:00 p.m. ET. American Dawn host Vickie Travis was the previous host of the long running “The Vickie Travis Hour” at Highway to Health. She is a well known patient advocate who has taken her tragic experience with an HMO system and utilized the internet and social media to become a leading advocate for HMO reform. “There are too many victims of this system,” stated Vickie Travis. “The long line of victims needs to stop and it needs to stop now.” American Dawn is one of several outreach advocacy projects of The Managed Care Reform Council.
