We Will Always be Inspired by Rachel Corrie

I'm sorry I didn't know this rare woman who is a hero and a martyr of the highest sense.

(SALEM) - As a little girl, Rachel Corrie talked about how she wanted to help people on this planet avoid suffering. She was killed in 2003 on the border of Gaza at Rafah, by a bulldozer operator who was found innocent this week in Israel in a case filed by Rachel's parents, Cindy and Craig Corrie.

Venomous comments have been left on our stories, claiming that Rachel had 'no business' helping the Palestinians. These comments are left by people with Israeli IP addresses and it amazes me that her death does not reach them through the spirit of humanity.

She was wearing safety equipment, she was communicating with the Israeli bulldozer operator with a loud bullhorn, but Israel says her death is her own fault.

It was barely over 65 years ago when the Jewish people were being slaughtered by Hitler and the Third Reich. Not just Germany, but Italy and Spain and other European nations backed the Nazi war machine.

It is very hard to understand why the political leaders of this culture believe the death of a human being resisting their own apartheid politics would not matter.

A serious void of humanity exists in Israel, where the radical Zionist culture believes it is entitled to land, and we're talking about Palestine... that belongs to somebody else. It is fortunate that so many in Israel are fighting on the right side, even if U.S. media never reveals that fact to its viewers.

Americans reading this, know that your interests in this world were carried by Rachel Corrie; she was pure and brave and willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for another human being. There was no agenda, there was no motive.... just a desire for peace and for people to be treated fairly. If this is truly not something to respect, then we as the human race are no longer respectable.

I'm sorry I didn't know this rare woman who is a hero and a martyr of the highest sense.

At the center of all of this, Tim pays extremely close attention to the safety and welfare of journalists worldwide. You can write to Tim at this address: tim@salem-news.com.
