No Justice in Israel for Family of Rachel Corrie

(SALEM) - An Israeli court has ruled in a civil case that the Israel army was not at fault in the bulldozer death of American pro-Palestinian activist Rachel Corrie nearly 10 years ago.

Corrie was 23 years old when she went to the town of Rafah in the Gaza Strip as part of a group of activists from the International Solidarity Movement (ISM). She was trying to spare a Palestinian doctor's home from being bulldozed when the operator, with Rachel fully in view, drove the machine over her body, crushing her and inflicting mortal injuries.

In response to the verdict, Rachel's mother, Cindy Corrie, said, "We do not have accountability for what happened to Rachel, and what happened in the court today, what we've seen at the end of this process is not justice. It is not accountability, and I expect that we'll be taking further steps."

Cindy Corrie, said, "We are considering of course what the court did today, but our attorney feels very strongly that this should be appealed to the Israeli Supreme Court."

Rachel Corrie was part of the International Solidarity Movement, she is one of three members of this group who were murdered in response to their human rights activism.

Others from ISM who have had their lives stripped away include Thomas Hurndall and the amazing Vittorio Arrigoni, who revived the efforts of ISM in Gaza, only to be murdered a year ago last April.

They are people who left comfortable homes and surroundings and families who loved them dearly, only to sacrifice their lives for the benefit of the Palestinians who live in or are seriously impacted by the acts of the Israeli apartheid state.

Some people in this world can not stand for such inhumanity, and the constant robbing of homes and properties and demolitions inflicted by Israel are wholly unacceptable under any moral measurement.
