Op Ed:
Open Invitation:
Salem-News TV-Interview
For Ron Saxton

Salem-News.com offers Oregon's Republican candidate for Governor the chance to answer a few questions on video.

Ron Saxton
Ron Saxton

(SALEM) - "Ron: We need the same straight answers you would offer to any other client seeking to set up your famous counseling talents for a new assignment. In all candor, this job now depends on what you answer to just several questions."

That’s our public invitation for Saxton as candidate for the Governor’s chair in Oregon, the State we all love and respect. He can speak out and up, right into the video camera-lens, here on Salem-News.

In Oregon’s capital, where he wants to “run the show” AND reign over State agencies employing those who protect and serve Oregonians so well; at pay-rates set by market survey and Legislative decision.

Ron’s been telling Oregonians he has “comprehensive” plans, ready for Legislators in “the Salem Arena”,for every Oregon problem known to all.

We agree action is now-essential to prevent desperately damaging further denigration in every Oregon program.

Straight-talk --presented personally-- always offers better message-delivery than any debate. If he seeks direct, factual sharing for voter understanding, how better to get it, rapidly?

Publicly-recorded, authoritatively-studied solid facts drawn from realities are “out there” already. Salem-News sent Ron documented details prepared by recognized and authoritative study-sources, covering:

Corporate tax reform for massive shift from corporate-paid, now-deeply slashed/back, to individual Oregonians; Educational-system “rescue” via rational research prepared professionally over a three-year period by respected Oregonians; and even Colorado’s own 13-year bad-consequences experience, as ONLY state ever to “buy one”, with TABOR; that Constitutional-attack initiative that Ron can’t stomach, but still will not yet openly oppose.

Even after six separate Colorado-prepared reports paralleling our own OCPP were sent to him before the Eugene GOP tribal-cabal.

“Educational-system rescue” proposals by CHALKBOARD represent rational understanding for any real SUSTAINABILITY --the basic principle of all life-forms-unavoidable for anything impacting children and learning-youth.

Arrogant editorial- finding fault over meeting-times and debate-numbers is misplaced emphasis, no matter where-found.

What’s needed is direct dialog with voters face-to-face with issues and Silent Saxton’s plans for the same. “More” is always “better” on dialog; See OREGONIAN Edit 8/24.

Saxton can reveal those so-secretive plans to key citizens right in Oregon’s capital where many leaders and workers reside and decide State success-or-failure; as anyone seeking to lead for the public weal must surely understand. You never antagonize your leader-cadre if you seek success in any organization - they “run the show” while you may run the top-desk !

The Salem-News video interview allows detailed presentation for rational evaluation, making his own pitch, in his own way, for all voters to see-and-hear, serving democratic ends and purposes.

Salem-News is the ONLY daily media organization in Oregon presenting that video-intrview situation to Ron; We owe it both to YOU and to him.

That’s a strong weapon to dispel fantasy-based new attacks on Oregon’s public-agency employees --those he suggested, first-campaign-shot, be “fired and then rehired”.

That flame flares anew: An outside-of-Oregon group is spending ONE MILLION $$$$ “raising public attention” by propagandistic press-radio-tv ads distorting public worker-images -- and public understandings, too. (See OREGONIAN, A13,8/24. Metro B-1 8/25)

They ALSO support that TABOR-initiative Ron cannot stomach --but still won’t openly oppose --discussed in a closed to press meeting some weeks ago with its sponsors.

Timing’s right on target:
Saxton’s campaign needs a sharp shot in the arm since polls show Kulongoski handily leading -- AND then $1 MILLION flies in from out-of-state, as “coincidental campaign contribution.”

“Coincidence” is a powerful political consequence built through cooperative action by colleagues, constantly encountered in most “weakened-campaign” circumstances Sometimes, wide historial experience shows, that process even accelerates into “cabal”...and then “conspiracy”...all done covertly, of course.

Still another “coincidence” carries on that theme:

An Op-Edit in The OREGONIAN (Reinhard,8/20) deplored a union political ad --while defending Saxton’s campaign, avoiding badly-needed issue-clarification from Silent Saxton.

Next a full-page anti-union ad appeared statewide, built around an openly-distorted State worker-photo. Propagandistic copy clearly perverted realities we know, again smearing ALL public workers for perverse campaign purposes, -on--openly defiying Legislative and Court action-on-record.

That same day “Big O” reported on the $1 million-dispensing group, demonstrating determined attack on unions and their officials, as malign intent by paid provocateurs.

Eugene’s REGISTER-GUARD (8/23) detailed perverted negativity of the ads and anti-union group-statements; with quoted-response from Oregon authorities with knowledge of Oregon reality.

“Coincidence struck again”:
A leading GOP-ster sought “strike-out” for Constitutional Party candidate Starrett, attacking process-detail to sabotage “spoiler”-danger to Party-power.

Can you imagine any R-type leader daring to do that, directly affecting the Party-candidate, without “cooperation”?

But his charges were sharply castigated and rapidly refused, continuing the Starrett “spoiler” role.

These compelling surrounding-situations trigger our Salem-News offer for “video self-presentation” to Saxton. With limited debate-exposure it is now demanded.

ANY corporate attorney must know values of direct delivery to the Jury -- openly and ON THE RECORD.

The details of when, where --and the advance delivery of ONLY FOUR questions from Salem-News-- are easy to work out; Our S-N invitation is flexible; it can fit ANY time-slot Silent Saxton finds he can still pry open.

What-say, Ron? Still seeking the job?

If offered this open-shot to a democratic audience, what would crafty, but ethical Ben Franklin do?

We await your approval and request for “those FOUR Salem-News questions”, ANY TIME --sir.

JP: Philosophers ever since early Rome have been defeated by that task --but we who inherit the same challenge from our own Founders have perhaps the world's strongest system for some advancing solution. But we let salami-slicers keep us in turmoil rather than cooperate and combine to put things better.

JP Salem August 26, 2006 11:13 pm (Pacific time)

Hank, I think we need a Henry Ruark for governor write-in campaign. It would be refreshing to have a governor capable of recognizing the difference between rational thought and "people's proclivities." We're very fortunate that the founders of this country had the wisdom NOT to give us a true democracy. The will of the majority sometimes trumps rational thought.

Hank Ruark August 26, 2006 5:28 pm (Pacific time)

To O/C: Thank you for your probing insights and further shared information --and dare I add, for your further endorsement of our original evaluations of the Saxton salami-slicing operation. One would think you do not trust this consummate corporate counselor.

Oregon Conservative August 26, 2006 4:45 pm (Pacific time)

Mills was using the original dictionary definition of "conservative," not today’s usage in the US. Our Founding Fathers were liberals in their time. Those who now want to adhere to their 1776 principles are the conservatives of today. Applying Mills' quotes to conservatives of today is irrelevant. Saxton is neither the liberal of 1776 nor the conservative of today. He isn't even very Republican which he hopes will help him win. He wanted to be able to say to conservatives, once he won the primary, "Ha! Where else are you going to go?" Then along came Mary Starrett. Tsk, tsk. Those waiting for straight answers from Saxton may fall asleep waiting. Besides, yesterday’s seemingly straight answers might change tomorrow. So why bother asking? He talked motor-mouth tough on illegal immigration, but now won't support the GOP resolution on anchor babies. The Dalles Chronicle reports, "He said a GOP push to declare English as the official state language 'is not part of my platform'" It’s reminiscent of the Pete Wilson campaign in CA. Pete petered out once elected. Under his watch illegal immigrant voter-fraud was rampant and ousted conservative B-1 Bob Dornan from Orange County. Signs of the same wishy-washy Wilson are all over Saxton. As immigration consultant to Schwarzenegger Wilson has advised against CA guardsmen on the border. He’s held back on other tough measures. Saxton said he was for tax limits, and got the endorsement of John McIntire and his anti-tax organization. Now he won't endorse McIntire's tax limit measure. He says he will sign legislation requiring parental permission for teen abortions, but he wouldn’t answer a questionnaire that pinpointed what legislation he is willing to sign should the Roe vs. Wade decision be sent to the states. Instead he, and his supporters, insists that no abortion legislation will ever reach the governor's desk. That’s a cop-out. He refuses to take a stand against more property taxes to support public schools. He says he doesn't want to talk about it. Remember that 30% income tax increase he supported, for Multnomah schools? Does the phrase, "actions speak louder than words,” mean anything? He claims he will not support civil unions and accuses anyone who says he ever did of being a liar. However, some Republicans remember his expressing the opposite and don’t like being put in the liar category. They believe he still supports civil unions and expect another carefully worded flip-flop any day. After running a primary campaign to convince conservative Republicans that he was the true conservative Republican, "in the mold of Ronald Reagan," comforting clarifications are being made to assure everyone that that isn't quite true. The 8/26 Dalles Chronicle reports "To show that he has not swung to the right, Saxton says his beliefs and stands on some issues do not go along with what the state Republican party championed in resolutions it passed at their state convention earlier this year." If one hasn't fallen asleep waiting for straight answers, they are no doubt dizzy trying to keep up with the flip-flops. This Republican is.

Hank Ruark August 26, 2006 4:21 pm (Pacific time)

Unfortunately time moves on, and as it does so must society, and that means people must change, The choice has always been whether that forced forward momentum comes from rational thought --which was why the Renassaince took place-- or merely from people's proclivities, sometimes termed "politics". Our Founders gave us a wondrous pattern to guide that choice, if we will but use it again...

JP Salem August 26, 2006 12:39 pm (Pacific time)

Well Hank, ol' John was certainly a witty man. But I can't help but think that at some point he or some other equally witty person probably made the same statement about liberal people. And to clarify something in my earlier statement, I should have said impossible rather than difficult. I wonder how different our country would be today if our legislators were still predominantly farmers and tradesmen?

Hank Ruark August 26, 2006 11:18 am (Pacific time)

JP: Have perhaps made same point without that defining characterization. Here's more from famous philosopher Mills: "Although it is not true that all conservative people are stupid, it is true that all stupid people are conservative." --- John Stuart Mill

JP Salem August 26, 2006 3:39 am (Pacific time)

I'm a lifelong Republican and conservative. But I am finding it very difficult to support Saxton. The word that comes to mind is slimeball.
