Eco-Green Community Indoor Dog Park and Pool Opens in Portland

“Because of the cold, wet climate, Portland desperately needed a large, dry indoor community space where dogs have room to run and where people can socialize regularly with other dog lovers."

Fidos Indoor Dog Park

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Fido’s Indoor Dog Park, Portland’s largest, eco-green, indoor community dog park and pool will open its doors Saturday, August 28. Opening day will feature hourly giveaways and a portion of the first week’s membership fees will be donated to the Oregon Humane Society.

Fido’s Indoor Dog Park is centrally located in southeast Portland and boasts over 20,000 square feet of climate-controlled play space. Separate large and small dog areas are covered with 13,000 square feet of special K-9 anti-microbial turf made from 100% recyclable materials. The park also features a 98% chemical-free, 1,400 gallon pool, daycare and boarding services, webcams, a self wash dog bathing area, a specialty retail store with all natural products, a Wi-Fi café, and event and meeting space for members.

“Because of the cold, wet climate, Portland desperately needed a large, dry indoor community space where dogs have room to run and where people can socialize regularly with other dog lovers,” said owner Josephine Cetta. “People can relax and have fun here any day of the week, regardless of the weather. We also practice the philosophy of the three R’s -- reduce, reuse, recycle -- in everything we do to provide a healthy, clean, green indoor environment for our members.”

Fido’s Indoor Dog Park was designed using eco-friendly products and practices. Interior walls are painted with zero volatile organic compound (VOC) paint from locally owned and Green Seal Certified Yolo Colorhouse. The environment is kept clean and odor-free using an industrial strength air cleaner; a locally manufactured, non-toxic enzymatic cleaner called Biozyme; and a biodegradable doggie waste system and bags that allow for modern composting practices.

Important to understand that a uniorfm set of regulations, conditions for opening a dog park is being developed in coordination w/Philadelphia Fairmount Park Assn and PA Horticultural Society. Also important to recognize that most of the existing dog parks in Philadelphia also have great difficulty in getting users to join, in order to pay for maintenance and upkeep. What's being proposed isn't really a dog park it's a private dog recreation facility at a per-use cost. Dog parks are generally free.
