(LONDON Times Online) - The British Government has warned of an upsurge in Nationalism and sexual offences on minors in Sri Lanka and has put out a travel warning to its citizens living, working and intending to travel to the island nation.

The Foreign Office has cautioned Britons to stay clear from public demonstrations as there has been a steady increase in anti-Western rhetoric and a rise in nationalism with the end of fighting between the security forces and the now defunct Tamil Tigers in 2009.

The British FO however stressed that ‘violent crimes against foreigners are relatively infrequent but at the same time advised Britons to make arrangements with reputable travel firms when moving around in the country.

Women in particular were told to take extra care when traveling around alone or in small groups and advised to carry personal alarms.
