Aug-09-2011 15:20TweetFollow @OregonNews MIA Tweets in Support of London RiotersTim King Salem-News.comMIA upsets fans with tongue-in-cheek tweet about London riots
(SALEM, Ore.) - MIA has angered some of her fans after a Twitter message suggested she was going to help out the rioters in the UK who are causing major problems. The unrest has now spread to four cities. It all began in Tottenham over the weekend, after a man named Mark Duggan was shot by police. The riots are now taking place in London boroughs of Clapham, Enfield, Ealing, Peckham, Lewisham and Croydon. Looters have attacked and robbed stores, and there is panic. The UK's politics are an extension of US politics and economic strife and wealth imbalance are the order of the day there also, so it shouldn't be a big surprise that singer/actress M.I.A. sent out a Tweet supporting the rioters that has people steaming. It read: 'I'm going down to the riots to hand out tea and mars bars' The tweet was met with heavy criticism, leaving fans labeling MIA as a 'muppet', Metro News in London reports, with one user simply replying: 'Not cool MIA.' But M.I.A. has a few reasons for sympathizing with those who are so unhappy with their political system that they are willing to take to the streets over it. She is the only Tamil entertainer of world prominence, and her 'people' were slaughtered two years ago during a massive Genocide in Sri Lanka. Her father worked with resistance fighters who for decades had only sought autonomy and to keep their language and culture intact as it was being outlawed. A hundred thousand souls would perish under the guns and bombs of the Sri Lankan Army as a result of this desire for freedom. Originally from south-London, MIA live in Sri Lanka later in her life, and of course the current wave of strife and civil war began when the British abandoned their colonial control of Sri Lanka in 1948. At any rate, after it angered people, MIA deleted the tweet; but she has more than the average grasp on world politics and it wasn't what I would consider random. In reaction, one person Tweeted, "Pull the army out of Afghanistan and stop all this bull**** now please. If you're gonna set fire to any house in London please make it the Big Brother house." Here in the U.S., conservative writer Peter Paton reacted with: "Great Britain must bring in the Army now and impose a curfew to quell the outrageous and violent riots that are destroying London, and now spreading to other inner cities. The British Police must also start using far more robust, belligerent and pugnacious methods against these violent and mindless thugs who are terrorizing London and the Nation." It is a sad perspective when a system brings people to the point of violence. I just think MIA knows a great deal more about how oppression feels. And remember, it is only a class war when the poor fight back.

The violence will rise here in America until the flash mobs that are growing, have a reaction that they have not considered as possible. Then there will be no more racism allegations made here ever again.

So the riots are here, and growing. As the below AP story says, it ain't about corporate greed that many of you uneducated think: "WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) - The investigation into 11 of the violent incidents on the opening night of the Wisconsin State Fair has resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old African-American who reportedly told investigators he targeted whites. West Allis police said Thursday the teen was arrested late Wednesday. The Milwaukee teen was booked on suspicion of attempted robbery and robbery. Police recommend that he face additional penalties for hate crimes. Police say the teen told investigators whites were chosen because he considered them "easy targets." On opening night of the fair last week, 31 people were arrested and at least 11 people were hurt. The West Allis Police Department has said race was a factor in the 11 violent incidents it's investigating. The State Fair has stepped up security since the attacks." http://www.wlsam.com/Article.asp?id=2260004andspid=

M.I.A. was not joking when she made that tweet, she is a supporter of violence. There was "no genocide" in Sri Lanka.
Editor: Yes there was, you now have immediately shown that you have no credibility. Everyone in the world knows it happened, there is no doubt, the only groupin disagreement is the Rajapaksa govt.
The Tamil Tigers are not "resistance fighters" but terrorists, who are on the FBI's most wanted list, who terrorised all Sri Lankans including ordinary Tamil civilians.
Editor: Nope. the government of Sri Lanka is terrorist and guilty of ethnic cleansing, the Tamil people only wanted fairness.
A large number of Tamil civilians were killed in the final days of the war as the Tamil Tiger terrorists held them as a human shield and prevented them from feeling to safe areas. M.I.A.'s "people" were slaughtered by her own "people". M.I.A. shut the **** up, you have no sympathy for human beings.
Editor: The LTTE did not use human shields, that is insulting to the intelligence of any human being. They were fighting for liberation, they did not sacrifice their own, they were killed by a murderous band of thugs in the SLA.
Pls note the fact that she removed her original tweet only after her own family were victims of the riots. And Mr. Tim King, pls try to get your facts right and not be biased, you've forgotten to mention the fact that the so called "resistance fighters" killed innocent souls including their own kind- but wait terrorists are not accountable for what the do, right? Peace.
Editor (Tim King) Read the history, study what is taking place even today, please don't root for the side of the oppressors, there will be many more riots if change does not happen in a reasonable timeframe.

this is the generation of uneducated, welfare dependent people. They are jealous of people who make honest money because they are to stupid or to lazy to hold a job. they believe that hardworking citizens have to pay for their drug addiction and cost of living. it's sickening to see what's going on in this country. they should get the military and start cleaning up this mess, use any force necessary
Editor: I think what they said was similar, only the first part regarded how sick people are of corporate shareholders dominating their lives, and they too want to use force.

Also, these rioters weren't protesters but hoodlums who who were inticed by the'free stuff' they could get, in short criminals. Peace.
Tim King: The LTTE was labeled terrorists but they are in fact resistance fighters and their cause was and still is just. I agree that the demonstration became a riot and I am not standing up for violence, but think about what led to this, that is the point. The Tigers were murdered, did you forget that? The SLA committed a terrible genocide, that is why people like MIA are pissed off, that is why I'm disturbed also. People are tired of seeing the disparity in wealth and they need fairness. This is what society gets when it isn't fair, and innocent business owners are paying the price for the actions of a government with a massive history of colonial crimes.

At this point, the only people who don't remember how it all started are those who distroy everything on their path in London.... instinct of the crowd, that's what it's called. It's anything but a class war. DB is right. Women and children are cleaning the streets by their shops... the easiest target, and those who pick the easiest targets that have nothing to do with the reason for anger are cowards.
Editor: OK, I agree with much of what you say Nat, but we know this is highly unusual for London and every single time terrible riots happen, it seems to be a reaction to racist and brutal treatment of Blacks and other minorities. So, while they're running on bad adrenaline and looting, they are absolute criminals and it is terrible for all innocent shop owners that are dealing with this. All I'm saying is that some people saw it coming and if we weren't having a robocop society continually practicing racism that should have been extinct long ago, all of this would be avoided. I'm not excusing bad behavior, I'm just saying the root is deep.
August 10, 2011 9:46 am (Pacific time)
These are criminals, just look at the looting going on you moron.
Tim King: Yeah, but why did it happen in the first place? And don't call people names, that isn't necessary.
Douglas Benson August 10, 2011 7:35 am (Pacific time)
More like the rioters need to start targeting the real source of thier rage and organize thier violence towards the police and government not the local population and businesses .
Anonymous August 10, 2011 6:41 am (Pacific time)
the "looters" are not the protesters, they are paid provacatuers, and the police were ordered to stand by. This is standard M.O. from the elite globalists, I have seen it a dozen times.
