(TIGARD, Ore.) - The Tigard Police Traffic Unit is investigating the death of a 90-year old Tigard area woman. Police say they are working to determine if the victim died as a result of being struck while walking as a vehicle backed from a parking spot. The incident occurred at the Tigard Towne Square shopping center located at 16200 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard on July 29th at approximately 1:45 pm. Police reports indicate that the victim, identified as Frances E. Johnson, was moving across the parking lot with the aid of her walker. At the same time, the driver of a Jeep Laredo was backing from a parking spot and allegedly struck Johnson. The driver, identified as 50-year old Timothy York of Canby, immediately stopped the vehicle and checked the area. York assisted Frances Johnson back to her residence after she reportedly refused the offer of medical attention at the scene. Once back at Johnson's residence, York contacted a family member to advise them what had occurred. Tigard Police officers were dispatched to the home along with emergency medical personnel. After examining Frances Johnson, medical personnel strongly urged family members to seek hospital care after the victim declined being transported by ambulance. Family members took her to Meridian Park Hospital. Ms. Johnson was ultimately transferred to Emanuel Hospital and died a few hours later. Tigard Police are continuing their investigation to determine if Frances Johnson's death is directly related to injuries sustained resulting from the impact with York's vehicle while walking through the parking lot. Currently there is no indication that at the time of the incident, the driver was impaired or any criminality was a factor. ============================================ Source: News release from Tigard Police Articles for July 31, 2010 | Articles for August 1, 2010 | Articles for August 2, 2010 | googlec507860f6901db00.html | |
