Apr-26-2008 12:41TweetFollow @OregonNews Letter to the Salem-News.com News EditorBy: Al HaywardUse your new power wisely and fairly. For if not, with the introduction and advances in artificial intelligence in super computers, future leaders may be robots with lap tops.
(TROUTDALE, Oregon) - The evolution of communications to the masses has evolved from street rallies, the pulpit, to the printing press, to radio to TV and now computer Internet-news has become the leading source of information in the USA and most of the world. Radio brought Adolf Hitler to power in the 1930's, TV elected John Kennedy over Richard Nixon in the 1960's and mostly likely Internet will elect the next American President. The primary winner in the tight race between Hillary and Obama will probably be decided in the upcoming primary elections in Oregon - thus making Oregon's most popular source of news, Salem-news.com the deciding factor over TV and newspapers in selecting the next president of the United States of America. Use your new power wisely and fairly. For if not, with the introduction and advances in artificial intelligence in super computers, future leaders may be robots with lap tops on their lap. AL Hayward Troutdale, Oregon Editor's note... Thank you very much Al for the wisdom that a lifetime of advertising and news experience from the NW and throughout the rest of the world can bring. In his life, Al Hayward has had the lead role in a number of remarkable projects. Some, like the effort to bring Oregon full service gasoline and the Bottle Bill, are shining examples of an Oregon that once was and possibly could be again. Samson et al: Yours re quote represents simple-shot to make sure the race question is strengthened despite its devastating impact on our democracy if allowed to prevail here. Are you paid-shill to drop such s...(read stuff !) into this sensible, sensitive, S-N channel ? B:button feeling you reveal does nothing positive, adds little sharing, increases negative possibilities, and in essence is more politicized propaganda already evident from you. IF you will ID to Editor, per ongoing situation here, will gladly continue direct contact clarifying for you why that is true statement. What you provide is entirely irrelevant to story content and previous comments unless intended to refer to TIME piece, which is sole item with quotes to mark it. AND your comment is also completely irrelevant to the contents so-reported in TIME, too. SO ? To what quote did you intend to refer ? How is your b-b/feeling re coming analysis in any way relevant ? IF NOT, why make it ??

I just saw the below quote and I believe we will be hearing alot about this kind of analysis during the general election period. "Whites supporting Hillary 65%-35%... RACIST Blacks supporting Obama 90%-10%... NOT RACIST"

I remember Al Hayward's work and how it changed Oregon into a more progressive state, and put us on the national attention map, pretty hard to put down things like the bottle bill.

"Anon" et al: Your snide cheap shot from behind anonymous cover tells us all we need to know about you. No "stock" in S-N, all risk and effort by Tim and Bon as you well know. Happened I had some contacts too, at working broadcast level and later, both professional and personal; and your remark is way out of line here in this context, unneeded and most revealing of inward feeling probably now working out from under denial. ID self to editor for more documentation on record via direct contact, if you are able to bring some of your own.

Does Hayward have stock in Salem-news.com? I was a very good friend of Governor Tom going back to his broadcasting days, Hayward was a sideline kind of guy and his above letter demonstrates why!

To all: Vision and understanding is strongly reflected in the Hayward letter. For further proof, see the current TIME issue for "Why Dems Rule the Web", showing how powerful web political action has already become. S-N plays honest, open and very democratic role in its Comments as well as its solid coverage of key events in our state and nation. Read, learn, grow --and be sure to VOTE ! In that decisive action remains the major application of the wit, wisdom, and WILL of the common people -- the underpinnings left to us by our Founding Fathers and their Revolution --which must now guide our own revolt re what we have suffered for the past thirty years of neocon abuse.
