(SALEM) - Salem police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver who hit a police motorcycle this afternoon.

Police say at 2:51 PM, a Salem police officer stopped a 1991 Infinity, maroon in color, for traffic violations in the 800 block of Saginaw St. S.

After making the stop the officer stepped off of his motorcycle to make contact with the female driver as she got out of the car. The car was also occupied by an unidentified male passenger. When the female got out of the car, the male passenger got into the drivers seat, backed into the police motorcycle then fled the area at a high rate of speed.

The police officer and the unidentified female driver were not injured. The motorcycle received minor damage.

It was found crashed and abandoned in the area of Miller St. S and River Rd. S. in Salem.

Officers are continuing their search of the area, assisted with Police K9s.

Is there a description of the male driver?

Glad no injuries, most important thing. Kind of cool in a James Bond sort of way. We need mass transit. Cars really create problems and make extra revenue raising, difficult for the police.
