(SALEM) - House Democratic Leader Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) released the following statement on the successful special session of the 73rd Oregon Legislative Assembly:

`The success of today`s special session was made possible through good faith and cooperation. We have shown that when we put aside our political differences and come together on behalf of the people we represent, we can accomplish great things for our state.

`Today we dealt with a broad range of issues each critically important, and each will have a real impact on real people in Oregon. Our constituents were the real winners today.

`I am particularly proud of the persistence of so many members of our House Democratic Caucus. Three of the issues we passed today were unfinished business from the last regular session. They were issues that we as a caucus supported but that didn`t make it all the way through the legislative process. Today`s session demonstrates our commitment to developing and implementing good policy.

`I also appreciate the hard work and of the Speaker and the Senate President, and all they did to bring this legislature together for a brief but extremely productive special session."
