(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office arrested Travis Ferguson yesterday as a result of an investigation involving Ferguson being involved in a sexual relationship with a person he coached. Detective Jeffrey Green with the Clackamas Sheriff, says the arrest came about from an investigation developed by the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputy who works as the School Resource Officer for Rex Putnam High School. 29-year old Travis Ferguson, who lives in Happy Valley, Oregon, is currently an assistant coach for Thelo United, a club soccer program in the metro area. "It is believed that the relationship between Ferguson and the girl developed during the time that Ferguson coached the girl in the club soccer program," Green said. "As a volunteer, Ferguson gave occasional assistance to goalkeepers on the Rex Putnam High girls soccer team in the fall of 2008. He did not directly coach the 16-year-old girl while working with the Rex Putnam team." Green says that according to school officials, Ferguson was not to be back as an volunteer for next season as another person with more experience was taking his position. Ferguson was arrested on nine counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree and three counts of Contributing to the Sexual Delinquency of the Minor. All charges are class "A" misdemeanors. He has been released from the Clackamas County Jail and is not to have any contact with any persons under the age of 18 at this time. The deputy believes there is a potential for Ferguson to have other victims due to his position as a coach. If anyone has information regarding other victims or Ferguson they are asked to call the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Tip Line at (503) 723-4949 Articles for April 14, 2009 | Articles for April 15, 2009 | Articles for April 16, 2009 | googlec507860f6901db00.html Quick Links

I love it...facts twisted, stories sensationalized. Gotta get the ratings! Thelo United press release states clearly that he was never a Girls coach. The SCHOOL which he coached at the previous year said he was used to help girls. Two different situations, blended into one to make it sound worse. http://www.thelounited.org/documents/press.pdf

Yeah, the "29 year old Ferguson" is in fact 20 years old. Big difference. He is not 21, or 21, he is 20. I love how everyone needs to have a spin on a story. He was not coaching the girl, just dating her. This is like arresting every senior over 18 who has a 17 and younger girlfriend and charging them for a crime. It's just ridiculous. I guess since he is not Sam Adam's there is a difference. We can't trust a 20 year old kid with our kids for dating someone underage but we can trust the city of Portland to a 45 year old man who did the something. Makes sense...

The Editor said that they didn't amend the story because the correct age is taken care of by the age correction comments. But what about those who scan the article and don't bother to read the comments at the bottom? Or perhaps they don't believe the comments posted at the bottom because they're not coming from a supposedly reliable source? They are getting skewed information. There is a huge difference between a 29 year old having relations with a 16 year old and a 20 year old having relations with a 16 year old. The other reports I have read on this arrest originally posted Ferguson's age as 21, but later added that they found out he was 20 and they did correct the error. Just a thought.......

Seriously, you cannot trust the news! Some typo to make--"29 year old Ferguson". He is 20 years old. I'm not discussing my opinions on the arrest, but if you cannot get his age right, this article deserves no credibility.
Editor: You know what? We receive information from sources like the police, and sometimes we make errors; sometimes the errors are passed to us. I allowed the age correction comment so that people get the right information, and I didn't ammend the story to reflect the correct age becasue it is now taken care of with the comment. We publish a lot of news here and don't enjoy making mistakes, but don't even start talking about "our credibility" because you are sorely wrong on that.
