(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) - A powerful story will be aired across Canada tomorrow night -- but unfortunately it will not be televised in the U.S.

Marianne Skolek

It may be available in the U.S. on the Internet by going to Global TV 16x9 The Bigger Picture.

The below information is shown on the Global website.

Since Canada is suffering an epidemic of deaths and addictions due to OxyContin, hopefully word will spread through Salem-News.com to our neighbors in Canada to watch this explosive production.

Don't look for Purdue Pharma's participation in "Dying by Prescription".

They may have caused the epidemic Canada is experiencing, but rumor has it that the drug lords in 3-piece suits did not grant any interview.

Dying by Prescription

Oxycontin was touted as a miracle painkiller to Canadian doctors: pain relief with few side effects and less addictive than morphine.

But soon this drug--known on the streets as ‘hillbilly heroin’ became the most prescribed drug in Canada… some say with tragic results.

16x9 tracks the king of painkillers’ fall from grace, ending in 100 families filing a lawsuit against the drug’s manufacturer.

Dying by Prescription II

When Oxycontin hit the market it was a big moneymaker.

Finally a drug that could relieve pain all day long, a wonderful alternative to addictive narcotic pain pills. Prescriptions for Oxycontin soared.

But it wasn't long before harrowing stories of addiction, abuse and side effects began to surface.

Dying by Prescription III

Oxycontin was a big money-maker for the pharmaceutical company that owned it, convincing doctors it was a safer, less addictive pain killer.

But in the US, that company made a shocking admission - it lied - purposely misleading doctors and the public all in the name of pill-popping profit.

That left claims from thousands of Americans and Canadians, hooked like drug addicts.

I don't see what the big deal is. America prides itself on being a land of free enterprise, doesn't it? (This is one of those times I wish there was a sarcasm font.)

Thanks to Global for showing us the real side of Purdue. Marianne, Global's story "Dying by Prescription" reveals the truth about prescription opioids and aligns with your stories in Salem News. What else do our governments need before they take action to stop this epidemic?
