Senate Passes Interest Rate Cap on Consumer Loans

Legislation will protect consumers from high interest predatory lending practices.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
The Oregon Senate today passed House Bill 2871, legislation that caps the interest rate on state-regulated consumer loans to 36 percent or 30 percent above the Federal Reserve discount rate, currently 6.25 percent.
The new cap will protect thousands of Oregon citizens from extraordinarily high interest rates that are associated with car title and payday loans.

A member of the notorious Phelps family of Topeka, Kansas was arrested today for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They operate the virus-ridden Website godhatesfags.com and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka.
Shirley Phelps-Roper was arrested for allowing her 8-year-old son to stomp on an American flag as hundreds gathered Tuesday morning to pay tribute to Spc. Bill Bailey.

Oregon Attorney General Obtains Restraining Order Against Texas Drug Compounding Pharmacy

Hardy Myers says the company's defective drug may have led to the deaths of three Pacific Northwest residents.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Attorney General Hardy Myers today obtained a restraining order from the Marion County Circuit Courts against ApotheCure, Inc., a drug compounding, pharmacy company based in Dallas, Texas.
The company’s defective batch of the drug Colchicine allegedly killed two Portland residents who were treated at the Center for Integrative Medicine in Portland and a Yakima, Washington woman who was treated at her local clinic.

United Food Group Expands Voluntary Recall to Include an Additional 370,000 Pounds of Ground Beef Due to Possible E. coli

The 11 affected states are Oregon, California, Washington, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and Montana.
(VERNON, Calif. ) -
United Food is expanding a recall to include an additional 370,000 pounds of ground beef that may have been contaminated with the E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.
This is the first product recall in the United Food Group's 30-year history, and because the company's policy is to err on the side of caution in its effort to protect public safety, it is voluntarily expanding its original June 3rd recall based on concerns raised by the California Department of Health Services.

Aloha High Officials Say Juvenile was Arrested for Bringing a Loaded Gun to School

During a search, a deputy discovered a .22 caliber "Sterling" semi-automatic handgun. The suspect was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Criminal Trespassing.
(ALOHA, Ore.) -
A Washington County Sheriff's deputy arrested a 17-year old male today for carrying a loaded handgun in Aloha High School. Police say the juvenile was previously in trouble for striking the vice principal.
He said he was carrying the gun to protect himself from other violent students.

The victim assaulted earlier this morning on SE 82nd Avenue, in Clackamas County, has now been identified as 29-year old Bobby Lee Burns, described as a Native American, formerly of North Portland, now residing in the Clackamas area.
The suspect, described as a light complected Hispanic male around the age of 25, was last observed fleeing on foot southbound on SE 82nd Avenue, near SE Causey and the Ross Store.

Body Discovered in Kansas is Missing Girl

A body discovered in the woods near the Missouri border has been positively identified.
(KANSAS CITY, Kansas) -
CNN reports that police in Kansas have discovered the body of missing teen Kelsey Smith from Overland Park, Kansas. They were directed to the area of her body by using cell phone signals, in an area just over the Missouri border.
The discovery was made just outside of Kansas City in an area where two nature trails come together.

Police say the Happy Valley Assault with an axe took place on SE 82nd Avenue.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office patrol personnel responded to a report of a male subject, who is believed to have been assaulted with an axe.
This male patient has been transported with a severe head injury, conscious and breathing, to Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital (OHSU), in Portland.

CNN reports that police in Kansas who are searching for missing teen Kelsey Smith in Overland Park, Kansas, reportedly find a body.
The discovery was made just outside of Kansas City in an area where two nature trails come together.
The 18-year old has been missing since Saturday, June 2nd. She was last seen leaving the Target store just south of Oak Park Mall at 7:00 PM.
