Local Deputies Extremely Outnumbered During Riot in Jefferson

A bar crowd got out of control after deputies tazed a man who they say resisted arrest.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - 28-year old Colin Weddle, 34-year old Benedict Butler and 29-year old Ty Ryan Amaral Marion County Deputies responded to the Plantation Inn on 2nd Street in Jefferson Saturday at 1:30 a.m. over a report of a disorderly subject.

The situation escalated and people started hitting and shoving the deputies from behind. Because they were extremely outnumbered they called for a "Code 0", which means a deputy or officer is in need of imminent assistance and all law enforcement agencies in the area respond as quickly as possible with as many officers/deputies as they are able to send.

Jefferson Firefighters Extinguish Four Alarm Grass Fire

The fire did not burn anything of value, but came close to spreading to a standing wheat field.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Jefferson Oregon firefighters at brush fire 7-19-09 Jefferson Firefighters were called to a brush fire near the Jefferson-Scio Drive and Greensbridge Rd at 2:55 Sunday afternoon.

Anne-Marie Penge with the Jefferson Fire District, says approximately a 1/4 acre of brush and grass was burning when firefighters arrived.

North Santiam River Main Channel Open Again ‏(PHOTOS)

Several agencies came together to help make this excellent fishery navigable again.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Santiam River The previously reported blockage across the main channel of the North Santiam River near Jefferson has been cleared. The Oregon Marine Board reports that a large cottonwood tree was removed to the shore on June 25th.

A significant amount of trees and debris had collected in the main channel, blocking the path of boaters. This made the sections of river very dangerous because of a 90 degree turn in the river; a scenario that offered little warning.

North Santiam River Dangerous for Boaters

Salem News encourages everyone to boat safely on our scenic rivers, and will keep you posted on these conditions as they change.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - North Santiam River Boaters on the lower North Santiam River should use caution on the section between Green’s Bridge and Jefferson. Two different areas have collected large amounts of debris which can cause serious danger to river traffic.

According to Scott Shepherd, Asst Chief of the Jefferson Fire Department, the first problem area is on the North Santiam River less than a ¼ mile upstream from the confluence with the South Santiam River.

Twelve Rescued from the North Santiam River in Jefferson in Two Days

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - File photo of a pair of Jefferson Fire volunteers Water Rescue teams from the Jefferson Fire District, Albany Fire Department and Linn County Sheriff's Office rescued six people from the North Santiam River early this evening.

Anne-Marie Penge, Fire Prevention Specialist with the Jefferson Fire District, said responders were originally dispatched to two individuals trapped on a log jam.

Deputies Respond to Bomb Threat in Jefferson‏

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Police lights The Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a bomb threat Monday in Jefferson.

Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says the incident took place at the Sterling Bank on Main Street in Jefferson.

The call regarding a bomb threat came in just after 5:00 PM. After the December loss of two police officers in Oregon over a bomb in a bank have placed law enforcement officers on high alert.

Police Arrest Jefferson Man On Numerous Sex Abuse Charges

Investigators hope to make contact with any other possible victims.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - 68-year old David Garcia faces numerous counts of sex abuse related charges in Marion County, Oregon. Marion County Sheriff Russ Isham says detectives arrested a 68-year old Jefferson man on multiple charges of sex abuse Tuesday.

Isham says David G. Garcia was contacted and arrested at his home in Jefferson after reports that he had sexually abused three juvenile victims between 1991 and July of 2008. "The victims were ages 7, 8 and 9-years old at the time of the alleged crimes and were all known to Garcia," Isham said.

Garcia has been charged with first-degree Attempted Rape, 2 counts of first-degree Sodomy, 2 counts of Unlawful Penetration, 3 counts of first-degree Sex Abuse and third-degree Sex Abuse.

Police Say `Huffing` Contributed to Fatal Car Crash Near Jefferson

UPDATE: Investigators have determined that more likely than not Ms. Williams had inhaled Nitrous Oxide gas prior to the crash not C02 as previously reported. The investigation is continuing.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Falon Rae Williams of Albany Police say 23-year old Falon Rae Williams of Albany was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus with three passengers aboard, when it left the road and crashed into a tree on Marion-Jefferson Road Monday about 5:00 PM.

Passengers in the vehicle were 23-year old Michael Evan Matthews, 19-year old Paul Hartzell, and 17-year old Rebeckah Jo Ann Crisman.

Rebeckah Crisman, who was seated in the right rear seat was transported to Albany General Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Boy Struck While Playing `Chicken` With a Freight Train

Kyle Clements is listed in serious condition with multiple fractures and internal injuries.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Police say a 13-year old boy was seriously injured Friday night around 9:20 PM, when he was struck by a freight train near Jefferson, Oregon.

Sgt Jeff Wheeler with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says that as the mile-long freight train came through town blowing its horn, the boy played "chicken" with it as he walked with friends on the railroad tracks.
