Four Alarm Fire Sweeps Columbia Spa FactoryVideo by Jerry Freeman Salem-News.com
The first reports came in around 11:30 p.m.
(JEFFERSON, OR) - Our news photographer Jerry Freeman caught the multi-alarm fire in Jefferson, Oregon that left major damage to the property, destroying numerous structures and threatening an adjacent mobile home park. The fire happened in Jefferson at the Columbia Spa Factory.
Jefferson Fire District was dispatched to the structure fire which quickly escalated to a 4 alarm fire at 1827 Talbot Rd. SE, Jefferson, Oregon.
The structure was the business of Columbia Spas, Inc. Owners John Burton of Sublimity and Dave Burton of Albany were contacted and arrived on scene.
The structure is approximately 25,000 square feet and is insured. When the crews arrived on scene the structure was completely engulfed in flames. There were multiple explosions within the structure.
The flames were threatening multiple exposures including a mobile home park. Marion County Sheriff's began evacuating the residences in the park at 12:43 a.m.
Red Cross reported to the Jefferson High School were residences were directed to go. Albany, Aumsville, Scio, Stayton, Sublimity, Turner, and Marion County Fire District 1 were dispatched to assist with the call.
At 2:32 a.m. the fire was deemed under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
