Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Highway 20 near Bend

(BEND, Ore.) -
Police say a 61-year old man was killed early Friday morning after his motorcycle crashed on Highway 20E approximately 28 miles east of Bend, Oregon.
Oregon State Police Sergeant Eric Brown, says early this morning at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2008 Ducati motorcycle operated by a 61-year old man was driving eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 28.

Over 100 Atttend Immigration Reform Rally in Bend

Immigration advocates say they want to see a sufficient number of visas allocated to close unlawful migration channels and thereby strengthen border security.
(BEND, Ore.) -
Today over a hundred supporters of Immigration Reform joined CAUSA, Central Oregon Jobs with Justice and Recursos Para Derechos Humanos at a rally in Bend to call on Congressman Walden to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation this year.
The rally took place during the Central Oregon town hall style TV show "Talk of the Town".

Motorcyclists Seriously injured in Crash on Highway 242 near Viewpoint

A driver was cited for Dangerous Left Turn.
(VENETA, Ore.) -
Police say a Bend-area couple was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when the motorcycle they were riding on crashed into the side of a passenger vehicle that turned in front of them on Highway 242 about three miles west of the viewpoint.
On August 16, 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m. a 1999 Subaru Legacy driven by 61-year William F. Foster of Veneta, was westbound on Highway 242 near milepost 76 when it attempted to turn left toward a highway turnout.

Bend Motorcycle Officer Hurt in Crash

The investigation is continuing.
(BEND, Ore.) -
A Bend police motor officer was injured Thursday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a pickup attempting to turn across congested traffic into a bank entrance in the city of Bend.
Eastbound traffic was reported as heavy as a driver attempted to turn left with a commercial truck approaching in the left eastbound lane, and struck the motorcycle in the right lane.

Since the beginning of the new year, 305 fires in Oregon have burned approximately 1194 acres.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Fire officials say mop up is still taking place on the 534 acre lightning-caused Twelve Mile Fire near Ritter Hot Springs about 12 miles north of the town of Long Creek. Today, one crew and one engine are completing interior mop up on this fire, which was contained yesterday.
Beyond that, no new fires 10-acres or greater, have been reported to the Salem Coordination Center.

Bend Woman Dies in Crash Near Black Butte Ranch

The 79-year old driver was not wearing her seat belt, according to police.
(BEND, Ore.) -
Police say a Bend-area woman died Saturday morning when the car she was driving struck a tree along Highway 20 near the entrance to Black Butte.
A 2005 Buick operated by 79-year old Genevieve Clare Watson of Bend, was westbound on Highway 20W at approximately 11:12 a.m., passing the entrance to Black Butte Ranch, when the vehicle failed to negotiate a slight right hand corner.

An Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife trooper is resting comfortably in a Bend hospital after surviving a 50-foot fall down a cliff Tuesday morning while helping ODFW conduct a big horn sheep census in Grant County.
OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings says this morning at approximately 8:00 AM, OSP Senior Trooper Larry Johnson was with two ODFW employees conducting an annual big horn sheep census near Aldrich Mountain in a remote section of Grant County south of Dayville.

Oregon State Police say a Bend-area man is lucky to be alive after a deer crashed through the windshield of his car Tuesday on Highway 97 north of the Deschutes Junction.
Sergeant Eric Brown with OSP says that just after 7:30 PM, a 1992 Subaru station wagon driven by 37-year old Jeremy Pollard of Bend, was southbound on Highway 97 just north of Deschutes Junction when a deer ran into the path of his vehicle.

A soldier who served with honor in the 101st Airborne Division was laid to rest in Oregon and she will be sorely missed by countless family members, loved ones and friends both in Oregon and Iraq.
24-year old Jessica A. Ellis wasn't just a soldier; she was a medic. Her job was keeping people alive in combat and reports indicate that she did it time and time again with valor. She died from injuries resulting from a blast from an improvised explosive device, or I.E.D., that struck her vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq.
